Setch
it is supposed to be wider at the FRONT(closest to the bridge) Am I nuts, or is Wes... or is that a who other poll?!!
erikbojerik
Of course, there is no front on a neck pocket. Only edges. It's like saying which end of the donut hole is up.
Jivin
If someone was saying the "front of the neck pocket" I would just assume they were talking about the narrow end furtherst from the bridge.
Dugz Ink
Well... the "front" pickup is the one that is farthest from the bridge... so if you use the same orientation then it would be the end farthest from the bridge. But there could be some technical reason that you should call the other end of the neck pocket the front... like referencing it from the heal of the neck? I have no idea. I'm just a lost newbie. I'm still trying to figure out why the "first" string is the one that is farthest from the player's face. And that's the only way I know to reference it, because the highest string (in the playing position) is the lowest string (tonally)... and vice versa. DOH! I knew I should have built a zither. Southpa
Should be using anatomical terminology for these kinds of discussions. Its just like describing a cadaver! Dorsal surface = back of the guitar Ventral surface = front of the guitar Posterior = butt end ie. away from headstock Anterior = towards headstock. So the posterior end of the neck pocket is wider than the anterior end of the neck pocket. Makes sense as the neck taper should snug right in there.
