Vultite Posted March 8, 2005 Report Share Posted March 8, 2005 From what I understand basicly all guitars need them, no matter how designed. Theres a debate here with this. I think that you need to put one in otherwise in X years the neck could bend out. He thinks that the reason for building a neckthrough would be to eliminate the need for the truss rod. Jester700 Posted March 8, 2005 Report Share Posted March 8, 2005 He's wrong; the need for a truss rod has nothing to do with the neck/body joint, and the biggest effect of the truss rod is well away from there - more in the 5th-9th fret area. Setch Posted March 8, 2005 Report Share Posted March 8, 2005 Exactly as Jester said, the trussrod only controls the neck outside the perimeter of the guitar body. It makes no difference if your neck is set, bolt on or thru, the trussrod perfoms the same task, and is just as essential to the performance of the guitar.
