soapbarstrat
No doubt in my mind, they are feeler gauges. I guess I've bought 3 sets of feeler gauges in my life, so far. All had rounded edges. It just amazes me how much praise these particular 'off the shelf' DIY style tools get. Now, I'll tell ya what might be something, is if someone would take round edge feeler-gauges and bond diamond abrasive on them. Probably wouldn't work with the thinnest sizes needed. No complaints about my Sperzels ;-)
black_labb
ive been using some feeler gauges to cut nut slots. for the big slots (low strings and bass strings) i put some sandpaper over it and measure the width with some vernier calipers to get the right width. i file teeth into the feeler gauges for the smaller strings on a guitar. works well imo
hotgoalie11565
I did try out the torch tip files from Grainger and they did a good enough job on a plastic nut. But for me the real test will be when I go to make a bone nut. I'm almost afraid to try it on bone, especially the thinnest ones for cutting the high E. Guest RavenT
The Ibanez, nut file set comes with 8 files for about $70.00 and are very good and fast to do the job. You might also find the fret file set it comes with 3 files s/m/l they are about 3” long without the handle and cost about $80.00. The also have a nut files set that comes with 3 files so you can do your fist cut this set is a little more $120.00 but it is the next set that I buy. Most of the tools at StewMac I have made already so the only tools that I have nut been able to make are files
