WezV
couldnt see if i ever started a thread for this but i know i have mentioned it a few times Here is the spec: Old stock 2-piece Mahogany body (1.5" thick - more SG/Melody Maker) 3 piece mahoganyy/wenge neck rosewood fretboard Grover tuners Uncompensated Vintage wraparound bridge (not sure of year) 1962 Gibson Jnr wiring loom (would be the SG shape in 62) BKP91 black dog ear P-90 a few more old bits going on it as well, like the backplate, truss rod cover, strapbuttons and pointy bits for the control knobs Nitro finish by mlennon... i will use mikes nearly there pics as i just got it back from him yesterday and the light wasnt good for photos http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff141/c...22122008444.jpg http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff141/c...22122008452.jpg http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff141/c...22122008451.jpg and before i sent it I am very happy with the finish and i am looking forward to getting this together as i really like simple guitars!! for reference here is some good pics of a real 55 jnr http://cvguitars.com/55LPJunior/index.html i havnt aimed for vintage authenticity with the spec as you can see, but i told mike to get the finish close... i am also looking forward to seeing if some of the vintage parts make much difference

j. pierce
Beautiful finish on that. There's something so primal and perfect about Jrs. Can't beat it. Something like this would definitely be my "desert island" guitar. (If I could bring an amp, of course.) Love the use of a few old bits for a new build. Love the use of a few old bits for a new build. i agree, the main reason for doing this was because i was having a few head scratching moments with the GOTM baritone - a junior or similar always helps me ground myself I was considering doing a relic to go with the old parts but in the end we decided just to do an as new nitro finish and let it age naturally. I asked mike to buff it out a little before the full 'fume free' cure as i am happy for this to sink back into the wood over the next few months

westhemann
That is a really nice Jr... Makes me think of some wood I have that would make a Jr but are not big enough for much else...

WezV
Looks like glass yep, mike is good so i will definately be sending more stuff to him! i got it put together this evening and am very happy with how its all come together... if i had made something like this as my first guitar i might never have made another - its perfect for me!! i have a selection of old and new wrap around bridges and decided to go with this one for now but since i have so many all different ones it might be worth experimenting. I choose this one first because I wanted uncompensated and this one seemed the closest to 55 spec (although it is chrome and not nickel). Its also quite lightweight although i do have one similar thats half the weight again - so light it feels like plastic.. i might have to give that one a go on it. I also have a couple of old 60's/70's ones with the compensation ridge on top and an original Leo Quan badass to try out... then its on to the new ones... i think i have a schaller and a wilkinson aluminium one here at the moment.
