theitalianrob
Hey guys. I havea hartke 8x10 bass cab and the carpet covering keeps peeling so i was thinking about re-covering it with tolex. I'm just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on how to go about doing this, especially corners, thanks in advance.
Tim37
i havent ever don a big cab but i have done speaker boxes in vinyl (not exactly sure what the diffence in that and tolex is). i used spray adhesive and a heat gun. get it strated at the center on the bottome of the box then work your way around spray a small area on both the box and let it sit for a few seconds to tack up then streach tight and smooth out make sure you dont get any wrinkles. then tuck the vinyl insid the box using the heat gun at the corners just don't melt the material. btw make sure the adhesive works with tolex i know some wont stick to vinyl and your covering will fall off after a couple of weeks. Our Souls inc.
I 've done some re-covers before... Spray -glue is your friend. Spray both surfaces and allow them to "tack" ~~ then put 'em together. Corners are best covered with corner protectors , which hides the "folds" and keeps the corners from getting smashed while touring/gigging. I've even done one in "muppet-fur" .......
