surj
I found an acoustic guitar, a decent brand, but one that obviously sat around without strings for a long while. Sighting down the neck, it is bent back squarely at the joint to the body. I have put strings on and loosened the truss rod a bit and this has helped somewhat but the bend is still there. I don't want to loosen the truss rod any more for fear that I may end up cracking the wood if I rush this. Is there sage advice out there? Am I wasting my time with this? Is it time to remove the fretboard and sand? Serge
Workingman
There is little danger in lossening a truss rod. The potential harm comes in the other direction. You can go or heavyer strings too. Just do things gradualy. If none of that works you are probably looking at a neck re-set.
Woodenspoke
The truss rod on an acoustic or any guitar does not operate at the neck joint only at the center of the neck. So you in fact have a neck problem not a truss rod problem.
