Crusader
When I was younger I bought Ernie Balls a few times and they always broke In 1979 I asked the guitarist at my favourite haunt and he said Dean Markley's so that's what I used When I buy Di Addario I don't know what it is but I just don't like them In more recent years I have found Gibson Britewires on par with Dean Markleys and also like DR Pure Blues

mistermikev
as I understand there are really only 2 or 3 actual string mfg... that said I recognize all sorts of dif recipes I like... used to use fender wound 3rd bullets and liked them... used to love blue steel... I keep finding myself stringing up ernie balls - more cause I think there is a slight difference in how snappy they are - for about a day or two. Also, many of my guitars are setup and intonated with them. For bass I love nylon tape wound -really gives me a dull sound I like while going easy on my skin. No eric johnson here... but that's what I like.
ShatnersBassoon
Im quite fond of polywebs on electric, although I do sometimes crave a tad more brightness. The best strings I remember using on acoustic were the Martin Bluegrass set, really nicely defined sound! Very crisp. Lovely for intricate fingerpicking pieces. However I don’t think you can get them in the UK. Edited March 10, 2018 by ShatnersBassoon
