Thinking Of Getting These Tools

I am wanting to get a helical head planer and new jointer, this is only 13" but should be good for what I need, and the jointer, well I just need one in general, and this seems like a good deal on another helical head one, and since I used mainly figured maple, I thought this would be good to have.

Anyone ever use either one of these?

I would steer clear of the planer at the least. The one retailer that I know carried it has since stopped due to the large number of returned units. There is some problem that I can't recall off the top of my head that seems chronic with the unit. I can't comment on the jointer, but might consider someting else simply due to guilt by association.

I had read that the dust extractor wasn't very good on these, but havent read a bad review on it's actual cutting at all, nothing but rave reviews on it actually, and same for the jointer. I am going to investigate what you said though, see if there is something I am missing.

Regarding the planer, for another $30.00 you can pick up the Makita 2012NB from Amazon. Granted, you'll need the $30.00 dust collector attachment and a 3" connector to make it work, but it's a nice machine.
