The Twins

Recommended Posts

Yeah, with all the rain lately the mosquitoes are going crazy.I like to walk out and wait until they start to gather around and land on me and then I spray myself with that Off crap, getting as many of them with it as I can...I like to imagine that it ruins their day

This is the most detailed build thread I can remember you doing. Keep it up, this is good stuff.

Thanks.

Okay...router time ^_^

Marked out and double checked the look of things

Used my super sophisticated template angling system for neck angles

After the neck pocket I took out the tilting part and did the rest.Neck pocket is 3/4" deep and angled, everything else is straight and 1" deep. Then I cut the body out and shaped it with the spindle and belt sanders

I could only do one and now I am exhausted. The bandsaw did nick the neck pocket a bit and now I have to disappear it.

Disappearing things is fun. I disappeared a 22 oz steak earlier today & that was great.

Cool gitir so far, that maple looks a lot nicer than what im using here today, should be a nice gitir when its done

You know,I got that piece of maple for cheap because of that stain.Lack of imagination on the part of the seller I think. The board was 14" wide and 8' long...3/4" thick...$120

These two guitars used up the last of it...I got a total of 3 tops and 6 necks out of it I think

Body #2 fared better in the routing and cutting

But not so great for my template....///#@##%%^& !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like I said,i would never blame my tools, but tomorrow I am going to Lowes to buy a new router.I've been using a Bosch Colt since my big Ryobi went out,but there have been too many close calls...it's just not stable enough...and all my sandpaper went dull on my spindle sander

That Colt makes me nervous,though...no handles and a tiny base...

Throw it out & get a heavy router with 2 big handles you can get a fookin good grip on. I went thru my tools a few years ago in a rage after ruining a guitar top with a dodgy router. Threw out anything I had even the slightest missgiving about, Best move I ever made. If a tool makes me nervous its going in the scrap bin - end of story.

We need to be focused on what we are doing, & if you are afraid the tool you are using is going to jump up & shred your forearm you are not focused.

Smash it with a sledge hammer.

Chuck it out.

Get a nice replacemant you can hold securly.

Trust me - you will be so much happier when you do -_-

Yeah that's what I had with my Ryobi...And that is what I am going looking for.

But no smashing of the colt..it works perfectly for truss rods with my sled contraption and a 1/4" bit.

Well,I got my router this morning.Lowes was woefully lacking, but home depot had me covered

I really like these Ryobi routers...they feel nice, have plenty of power, and don't cost but $60

First I cleaned up the top routs

Then I turned my attention to the back

I can't believe I waited so long to replace my big router...It's so much more stable

Ha ha ha. I have a similar one here. I use it for pup & neck routing. I also have a big heavy Dewalt DW625EK for bodies & necks. Big evil 2000w thing that weighs about 10-11 lbs. But the ryobi is much easier to move about so it does all the fiddely work.

And all of the routing and drilling on the bodies is done.

Tomorrow will be spent contouring the bodies with a rasp and then hand sanding them to 320 grit...then I will seal them with CA and possibly be able to clear them on Sunday.I need the finish on so I can fine tune the necks to fit properly.

I don't care what anybody says,it's hard work trying to build a nice guitar...
