Wood Storage

Recommended Posts

hey guys, got a fair amount of wood I need something to do with it. Im wracking my brain to think of a good, effective storage solution (preferably organized, and in my shop). Any advice is greatly appreciated :P

If you have long pieces, some heavy-duty brackets attached to the wall studs is a good solution, stack the pieces with stickers between them.

For smaller bits, I built a scrap cart with wheels on it:

Wood stores quite well for many years if you cut it down into guitar shaped pieces and hang your stock on the walls or keep them in cases. Every once in a while remember to take them to bars and clean them.

If you have roof rafters that can take the weight, that is a good stopgap place to leave wood and surprise yourself later down the line. ;-)

I would just make sure the wood have good airflow around it so DC Ross says, sticking and stacking is best practice.

Well I have space, thats not the problem, Id keep in the rafters, but Im looking for quick access. I asked a cabinet maker how he stores his wood, he keeps it like a bookshelf, pieces stacked on end to flip through like books, thought that was a neat process. I'll probably make some shelves for it, waiting for inspiration to strike :D
