where to get laminated plates for hollow body electrics

Recommended Posts

I've been building acoustic guitars for some years and recently I'm wanting to build something like an es-175. I'd like to you laminated plates. It seems most of the sound with be coming for the electronic and there is no need to go to the trouble and expense of carving solid wood. I could probably make my own laminates, but would need to build forms...does anybody know of anywhere I could buy arched laminated top and back/side sets?

You can try asking Ken McKay at  www.upnorthstrings.com he was making them and also had some tutorials on using them to build laminated archtops. Also try http://acme-archtops.com/ and http://www.pacinfo.com/~sholst/laminatedplates.htm

Forgive the zombie thread, but I searched "laminated archtop panels" and this came up.

I've been a member for years, but haven't checked the site in a while.  I've started making my own laminated archtop panels.  If you are still interested, you can contact me by PM.

Here's are some links to pictures:

Panels have lying around: https://i.imgur.com/fYC09rC.jpg

A Starcaster shaped (offset waist) bass: https://i.imgur.com/raWOvSS.jpg

Two extra large (18.5" lower bout) basses - the BassVI: https://i.imgur.com/zfWNrBD.jpg and the Harlequin: https://i.imgur.com/1Pgf3ug.jpg

I also have a generic mold to make symmetrical guitar sized archtops like Gretsches, and ES Types, with or without cutaways.
