dawnofzion
I'm starting up a solid walnut Telecaster Deluxe build. The body is English walnut sides with Black American walnut center stripe. The top will be a goldtop with black pickguard and hardware. P-90 pickups with deluxe style controls. The neck will be Black American Walnut with a Rosewood board. Currently I have the body wood milled down, glued up, and rough cut to shape. The routed to shape. Got the neck milled down and roof cut. Then routed to shape and installed a Paduak skunk stripe. I will be updating this thread throughout the entire build.....
KnightroExpress
That is some tasty walnut. This is going to be a really cool guitar, I'm excited to watch it happen!
ScottR
Okay, I'm loving this....and it's going to have P-90s too! I'm going to hate it when you cover that up with a goldtop though. SR
Prostheta
Agreed! A goldtop will be fantastic, but it's a ballsy move going over that beautiful Walnut. Go for it.
dawnofzion
Just to be clear, I don't plan to cover up all the walnut on the guitar. It will be a gold top with cream binding on the front.......but The back will be clear over the walnut.
Prostheta
Exactly. I think they'll work nicely together.
dawnofzion
I took an image off the internet and crudely photoshopped what I'm gonna do.
Prostheta
Crude or not, thats got style.
birch
Very nice. The walnut will look great with the gold. If Gibson made a Tele, I imagine it would look much like this.
dawnofzion
Truss rod routed.... help from my son..,
Prostheta
That's the way to do it! Just make sure you teach him not to do anything if he doesn't understand it, and that confidence doesn't equal capability.....if he's anything like I was as a child, he'll be right in there when your back is turned trying to whip up a Norlin-spec Flying V, which is definitely a mistake no child should be making.

dawnofzion
A little neck shaping taking place. It's been sitting dormant for a bit, it's time to make some progress!
Zack
I'm just curious what the purpose of the neck stripe is since it's a dual action truss rod. Other than how awesome it looks of course.
Prostheta
True enough! It gives the look of a traditional single-acting rod installed from the back though. Maybe that was the intent? Cosmetic?
dawnofzion
I always liked the skunk stripe on the back of fender necks. Purely cosmetic.
