Norris
If you ever fancy doing a tutorial on your polishing regime I'd be very interested. You do get rather good results!

You do get rather good results! It's really very simple. First is spraying nitro. Then go to that trick I mentioned with the 400 grit. Next I go through the micromesh grits: 1500-12000. I typically use them dry so I can see what is happening, but sometimes will use wet with mineral spirits particularly in the courser grits. Then buff with that Meguiers ultra-cut buffing compound on an automotive buffer with a wool pad. That does a brilliant job of removing shallow scratches and swirl marks. curtisa
I think it's called 'Air Guitar'.
ScottR
I've always wondered how one intonates an air guitar. SR

ScottR
Indeed. I lined the control cavity with adhesive backed aluminum. Once Carl mentioned how gooey the adhesive was on the heat tape I was using on the last build, I realized I have access to a bunch of this stuff, and the adhesive is only .002" thick. The tip of the day actually comes from Drac from way back when.... Instead of blocking ferrule holes or sanding them open after clear coating, use your soldering iron to heat them up as you press them in. It stops lacquer chips and seals the ferrules right in. I had a moment of clear bright direct sunlight whilst strapping on hardware. SR
ScottR
I got all the hardware strapped on and the nut made and then strung it up. It still needs a set up and intonation. But it looks like a completed guitar, so from here on out I have indulged in gratuitous picture taking. Because we all like looking at pictures. ScottR
I did plug it in to see if it made any noise. I used 250K pots, so it is both silky sweet and cranky as hell depending on the attack. That's what P-90s do after all. But I do have a puzzle for you curtisa. The volume pot does not go completely quiet. All the way up- let's call that 10- is normal and it bleeds on down as expected to somewhere between 2 and 3. Then rotating the knob to what should be of,f turns it back up to full volume again. The tone pot works correctly. That's a new one on me. Sounds like the volume pot is kaput, probably the resistive element inside the pot is damaged in the last few degrees of rotation. Maybe it got a bit cooked while it was being soldered. Maybe it was a dud out of the packet. Happens sometimes. You could try rotating it up and down off the '0' position a few times to see if it comes good, but the better solution is probably to replace it outright. ScottR
I have a couple of expert photo bombers in the area. Thought that be the case with the pot.....and it has an equal chance of have gotten cooked or just being a dud. It was one of those Emerson CTS Pros, so it was not supposed to be a dud. charisjapan
Just WoW! This is where a jaw-drop emoticon would be handy. Or a drooling mess. Or a green-with-envy. But this'll do ... Mr Natural
"Because we all like looking at pictures. " Come on grampa- call it what it is- we all like looking at guitar/wood porn! I mean- look at the curves and the set of p-90s on that baby. ooof! nice job Scotty- if I didnt mention it in (years) previous- I really dig the head stock design too- especially the personalized volute. too cool. curious- what are the measurements on the center of the p-90s to the bridge? and- is it the same scale and pick up location as on the guitar you did a couple years back that you put up the mp3 soundbites of ?
