Chris G Crazy Art Teleish Build

Thanks guys!! I have the angle marked out and think it is correct.  I drew it up using crimson guitars neck break angle method.

I did a practice run on the truss rod. What do you all think before I do it on the neck?

Well practiced!

And the Crimson method for the angle is valid, done that several times on my neck thrus.

The test route is a good idea, I did the same thing with a piece of scrap pine for my first build. When I route truss rods now, I normally just take passes 1mm at a time because I don't trust the depth stop on my little triton router. The neck lams look great, really interesting build with your crazy top!

I've also got that book, lots of really useful information there. That combined with Ben Crowe's early videos are pretty much all you need to get through the first couple of builds. I found Ben's 25 hour build especially useful for my current neck-through build and his Clarity build was really useful for neck laminations.

I got a little more done. Cut the fretboard on the band saw and planed it all up on my favorite new tool!! The 13 inch dewalt planer is amazing!! I only had it for a couple of months now.

I also got the truss rod channel routed out. I still have a little more clean up to do. 20190419_192820.thumb.jpg.74a581a11a34ad69bb90fd4ce52b0cf3.jpg

I like the underlying woodwork very much! The pens? Nicely carved and if I saw her in some exhibition she might raise a Whaddayaknow reaction.

Thanks! Do you mean the pencil? I seen some videos on YouTube on turning colored pencils and loved the look. I thought that would look cool as a top. Working with the pencils has been a challenge but been able to overcome those challenges with a really cool result.

Yes, the pencils. Not pens. Both are suitable for writing and drawing and both words are familiar to me but my memory failed me. At first I was going to type crayons but realized that it's not the right word here. Oh well...

Man, Chris, hen you do an update, you really do an update!

This may be one of the most out there ideas I've run across, and I'm super impressed that you've pulled it off.

Well done!

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

I've seen the colored pencil guitar thing before, but not quite like this.  not sure I could come up with an idea to make one and have it come out distinct from the others I've seen, but you did that.  cudos.

Thanks Mistermikev!! When I started this build a couple of years ago there was no posts on YouTube or interwebs on pencil guitars. The few turning pencils into bowls  videos I could find one guy super glued each one together then covered with resin. My thought at the time is that might just work to make a drop top. Well it did!!

This is pretty innovative! I’m not always a fan of these making guitar out of crazy materials builds but you are doing something quite different here. I love the way that the pens are arranged horizontally. And it’s cool how you have used it as just the top. Anyway it’s looking sweet! 👍
