This contest is open to any and all members and will be continued each month for a place showing your creation on the homepage! The winner of course will have his/her guitar featured on the homepage of Project Guitar.com and if you have a website the picture will link directly to it if you so choose (even commercial site's). If your a forum member you will also be upgraded to a Featured member which allows you to see the Advanced Chat section and download area. So show us your creation in this thread! You've got till midnite EST the 23rd of April then this thread gets locked and the voting starts! All plastic and hardware from universaljems.com, homemade alder body, ice blue metallic finish (as my father said ...actually in person it is more bright ), sounds great IMO. StratDudeDan Posted March 31, 2004 Report Share Posted March 31, 2004 and i think i'm gonna drop my strat in again. that's me and my geets, the strat's all the way on the left, the one that looks like a strat front: back: blank headstock i cleaned up and put my sig on: and my fancy blue strap buttons: this was just a custom refinish/clean-up/fixer-upper job i did. it was formerly a laminated, mexican made affinity squier stratocaster. i put the standard (non-adjustable poles) fender p-ups on it, just to get rid of the nasty hum and crappy sounding ones that were on there, re-built the electronics (the same way they were) with better solder joints and whatnot, just to keep it clean, cleared the headstock, bought that alder body off my friend and attached my neck to it (the fretboard was silicon oiled, a special mixture that i worked on with a couple trombone players i know). the finish was done with minwax clear stain and minwax ebony stain, with a brushed on paint of some sort for the 1/4" outline on the flames. the blue strap buttons were spray painted, 'cause the last finish i had on it was metallic flake blue, so they matched. I realize everyone's probably already seen this one, but i figured I'd see how it fared in a contest This is "Thinskull 1", or TS1. TS1 is an old '80s Kramer Striker. It is a laminated body, which makes carving like this SO much easier, especially since I didn't have my Dremel yet when I did it. It has a set of Seymour Duncan H/S/S with 5 way switch, 1 volume, 2 tones and a coil tap switch. Floyd Rose II double locking tremolo. Anyway, here are the pics with some explanation for anyone who hasn't seen it. I used razor blades and chisels to carve the black areas down, which left the other areas higher. I used wood putty to build up around the eyes and cheekbones, and also horns coming from the eye sockets up to the top of the skull. I got the crackled finish by painting the whole thing black, then clear coating it. I then used gray primer over the clear coat and it seperated leaving all these cool gashes in it. (It's something I did by accident once, but remembered the results.) Then a final coating of clear. The neck is also painted black and buffed to a good shine. For the headstock "Thinskull" logo, I printed out THINSKULL at the right size and font, then I cut the letters out. I used Elmer's glue and dripped it on each letter until it filled the letter to the edge. After that was dry, I glued it to the headstock and painted it red. I really like the contour of it. I'm really starting to dislike flat surfaces I had to do a good bit of sculpting on this one because I had the 5-way switch and coil tap switch to make way for. Alder body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard fretted with jumbo frets. Ibanez edge tremolo, EMG / Select pickups. Here are the specs: Body: Black Limba Top: Quilted maple with a black/blue burst Neck: Bolivian rosewod Fingerbaord: Brazillian rosewood Binding: Indian Rosewood w/5 ply purfling on body, fingerbaord, and headstock Bridge: TonePros tune-o-matic with ebony string-through tailpiece Pickups: Seymour Duncan JB bridge and 59 neck Finish: Nitrocellulose on body only. Bare wood neck for that rosewood feel! Switching: Master Volume, Master Tone, and a 5-way: 1. Bridge humbucker 2. Outer coils 3 Bridge and Neck humbuckers 4. Inner coils 5. Neck humbucker A push/pull knob on the Tone puts the circuit into series/parellel for each position. Great selection of useable tones. In the actual photo, you can see the wood grain through the transparent candy red. I suppose I should say a little something about it. 1993 Gibson LP Studio Ebony Fret Board Pearl and Ablone Inlay Transparent Candy Apple Red Fret markers are diamonds Looks real cool too. Here is my entry since I am new here: If you have seen Joe perry's les paul this is the tele version Gibson PAF from the 70's. Dimarzio DP207 great screamin pickup. All maple birdseye neck with Jumbo's fender roller nut along with locking tuners... rock on! nicer pictures of flames - this is all I have going for me.
