daveq
Well, it isnt centered. I was waiting for someone to notice. When the knobs and hardware are in place, it wont look so off I did notice it but I didn't want to say anything. Since you brought it up - what are you going to do - are you going to leave it as is or are you going to cover the whole thing with a veneer/top? I don't even know if a veneer would work well since there would be so many different woods beneath. Was it something you missed and noticed it after cutting the body or just something you planned and thought it might not be noticable? Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars
No, it just kinda happened. Playing by ear cuz I was bored. I get what I got. At least it'll be playable when I'm done.
daveq
Yup, dim the lights (or maybe just turn them off), crank it up, and no one will know the difference. At least it will have plenty of personality. My first guitar that I built isn't much for looking at but sounds and plays great. I never got around to finishing it (lacquer,...) so it has built up a nice big'ol spot of crud under the bridge pickup. It doesn't stop me from playing it though. Maybe this summer I'll get around to finishing it, maybe not.
Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars
Yeah, I guess I kinda stayed with the spirit of the 16 year old building with the V. It only had one coat of tungoul on it when I "finished" it then. So, it's mine, and it still looks like I was 16...LOL

JohnJohn
Those inlays are killer, man that's some great work. For as much of a nightmare as it's been the double cut is gonna look sweet
Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars
Well, I bought the inlays off ebay, and the pic isnt that great, but it'll be killer. The doublecut is a learning experience, not a night mare. I keep telling myself that so I dont kill it.

Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars
More updates: I figured out how to A: produce less waste, and B : make the neck process faster. http://fullservesite.com/lcgs/misc%20pics2/new%20neck2.jpg And an update on the DC. Doesnt look like much, but a lot of sanding and filler was done, and the neck is much closer: http://fullservesite.com//lcgs/misc%20pics2/dcf1.jpg http://fullservesite.com//lcgs/misc%20pics2/dcf2.jpg http://fullservesite.com//lcgs/misc%20pics2/dcf3.jpg http://fullservesite.com//lcgs/misc%20pics2/dcf4.jpg

Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars
Here's the new neck process for today: I first set the angle with the first wing. Then ct the laminates. Until the glue dries on the wing, I can go no further. http://fullservesite.com//lcgs/misc%20pics2/scn2.jpg http://fullservesite.com//lcgs/misc%20pics2/scn3.jpg http://fullservesite.com//lcgs/misc%20pics2/scn4.jpg http://fullservesite.com//lcgs/misc%20pics2/scn5.jpg http://fullservesite.com//lcgs/misc%20pics2/scn6.jpg http://fullservesite.com//lcgs/misc%20pics2/scn7.jpg http://fullservesite.com//lcgs/misc%20pics2/scn8.jpg http://fullservesite.com//lcgs/misc%20pics2/scn9.jpg http://fullservesite.com//lcgs/misc%20pics2/scn10.jpg

erikbojerik
OK, so the only part of the neck that's "thru" is the purpleheart; the rest of the neck is laminated to the purpleheart after the body wings dry, am I right?
rhoads56
I dare say your going to have trouble getting that neck angle to work with a floyd. Hope you intend on carving the top to fix it.
Setch
No kidding! That looks like 10 - 12 degrees, which is double the angle I've seen on anything else, even on a LP style. Did you draw this all out in advance? Are you capping the limba with anything?
kings_x
The good news is you should be able to cut and or steam the body wing off of the purple heart without loosing too much wood.
MikeB
hey lex, i used that method for not wasting wood on my neck about 4 months ago, its very good! i had to make my neck outa this one small plank, and i did cos of that, dad thought of it! ps as soon as i host my pics, you will see this in waay more detail!
