  1. That is a dang good scarf joint on that neck.
  2. Looks like a cool/interesting build. I love paduak. Hopefully it doesnt turn brown with just an oil finish. How is that middle pickup a dimebucker?
  3. I may go by the wood yard again monday. If they still dont have the mahogany to the top, i might look for some good walnut, and just use that for bodies. I have a sick piece of redwood burl that would look cool with a walnut body.
  4. Right, i get that. That is my point. It reads either the maximum or 0.
  5. Dang man, those are some extremes to make a truss rod cover. I just cut mine out on the bandsaw and sand it to shape on the disk sander. Then bevel with a sanding block.
  6. So i still have this neck sitting here... I have went to my wood supplier twice already. Last time they didnt have any new mahogany. This time they did but it is at the very bottom of 5 pallets. so i cant even look through it until they get to it.
  7. An easier way would have just been to go from the neck pocket to the bridge pickup cavity, then from bridge rout to cavity.
  8. Well, that one isnt made of maple, it is made of other heavy woods I can guarantee those are heavier than mahogany. But i am sure it is the full thickness bodies that allow it to balance. Even with a super light mahogany and walnut necks that i use, with a thin body it doesnt balance with a shape nearly the same.
  9. I forgot you make your bodies full thickness. That must offset the neck woods.
  10. Do those super strats balance well? It seems like with those neck woods and full sized headstock it would neck dive like crazy.
  11. must be then. It is the prong type. I can stab it into the wood as deep as i want and it wont show any reading at all. Put it on a green piece of live tree, reads fine.
  12. Thank you sir. That means a lot coming from you. You were a big inspiration to me when i first came to this forum. Miss seeing your builds!
  13. What is this madness?? The legend? The master has returned???
  14. That is a pretty good looking guitar. I normally dont like when the body wood and top are about the same thickness, but wit that contour and shape it works well.
  15. Do you carve into the side of the fretboard, or is that an illusion?
  16. Dang man. I have never had that happen with african mahogany and titebond. Wonder how that ended up warping so badly?
  17. Looking great! That guitar is looking insanely thick. I used to make my templates by cutting the inside out with a scroll saw, then using a rasp to make them flat and square. Recently i found a new way that seems more accurate. I run some pieces of 1/4" MDF on the jointer then cut them up into the lengths i need and use them to make a template for my template.
  18. I have used TOMs my whole build career, and I have not came across one like that so far.
  19. So i ordered a wood moisture meter to see what kind of percentages this wood has. I know all of the wood my distributor carries is always very dry. But apparently Cheaper moisture meters dont work well on wood. Every piece of wood i put to it reads 0%.
  20. Yeah. I havnt had this happen before. I have been buying at this wood yard for almost 10 years now, and never had anything from them do this. Since this piece already cracked, i have a feeling the entire 12ft board left is going to crack as well. I guess i can make another neck in the mean time.
  21. Thanks guys. Scott, I had planned on it being almost the same as the last SS, with the quilted sapele, but spraying it trans green or blue. My wood supplier didnt have any good mahogany this time, so i had to pick a rough sawn board. The board had a few cracks on one side of the board, but i could cut that entire side off. I still didnt escape it though. The body blank i cut already cracked. I knew i shouldnt have bought that board, but i didnt want to wait a few more weeks. I think this whole board (22bd ft) will probably end up being 99% loss. I should have just waited.
  22. Fretboard radiusing. This one is a 5 piece maple, walnut and paduak neck, wenge fretboard. Also, this is my new headstock. I needed one with straight pull. I almost got it right, but i forgot to take in account the width of the tuner post. So i have to move the holes to the left.
  23. Indeed he is. Thanks everybody who voted for me. I have entered many builds in the 8 years i have been a part of this forum and this is my second win. I almost felt bad knowing Rad and Demonx had awesome builds. Started some new projects, despite everything said before.
