  1. They suck, I have found nickle sting to be the best choice, they offer long string life and don't hurt the frets, easier on the fingers if you have soft hands. I used lots of rotosound stainless on the bass and found only get two weeks of life out of them and they are done. Found D'Addario to be the best, guitar and bass strings. They last long and are all good.
  2. I chose esp, cause they play well and sound good, BUT i played a 5 string ESP sig slayer bass and the neck had two hairline cracks down it, I sent it back to the store and told them to shove it. epiphone are good low cost high quality ones bc riches are heavy and crap sounding ibanez good but getting crappy with the low cost models actually most companies are making crap low cost low quality guitars, Maybe cause most people dont want to spend the bills, I think a guy should be able to get a good guitar or bass for $500-850CAD, Over that is going pricey for me and under that is usually crap quality. Play em and try em all. Dont take and never take anyones word for what you really like. OH YEAH
  3. basses epiphone em-4 with 18v emgs, white w/ white pickups and hardware yamaha bbr series 5 string- white w/ black dual soapbars gold hardware 89 carvin lb70, current project, fender lace sensor j-pickups, black hardware, stained natural finish
  4. What can you expect! Most of the strats are the same way, bad tuners, pickups, bridges, necks, etc. you think that clapton and jimi are using stock ones? take any piece of wood and add 1g worth of parts and you got a guitar. Just what you start with depends on your final outcome of your tone and playability. That all my opinoin, if you love fender great. I just dont and never will! Death rock dont ever come with pickguards!
  5. tune the fourth and sixth string to the same pitch, excatly one octave apart, or strum the top two strings together the e and a string and tune the e to pitch as a fifth chord. ANy ways you like or screw around with a tuner for one note, in my opinoin is a waste of time unless you are tone deaf or in a recording studio where exact, exact pitch absolutly matters, all up to ya though, Thrash on and stuff.
  6. I said pirates! Cause they would stomp the crap out of a ninja! One other thing pirates got bigger blades and they are stronger. Lot of good all the hi-ya crap is gonna do miss piggy when your brains are running out your freaking eye sockets from a big pirate boot stomp! Anyways
  7. It is not lead playing at all. It sounds like a punk kind of tone(with crapy recoring gear) But what he is playing is rythem, but he is going nowhere with it. He sounds really lost. I would title that lost on the fretboard. He does have the technique down for hitting notes after one month, but on the artistic side of things, sounds like he is trying to compose a song of some sort that makes no sense(at least at this point it does not) These are all my own ideas. Agree? Disagree?
  8. Yeah your right wes! Now that I think of it. I am just a dumb bass player anyways! You get more or less bass by moving your palm closer to the bridge more to the neck less.
  9. I think this might be the problem that we are all missing here. We all know to play metal or most metal you need to be able to palm mute. In yuor post you said but hey I dont know how?? Ok I would have to say place the side of your hand about two inches up from the bridge on the strings. With your thumb and index finger hold the pick and pluck the strings. What you you should hear is the sweetest thing on earth! The beloved CHUG CHUG CHUG!! What you are doing is getting rid of the sustain of the notes. Practise by putting more or less prerssure on the strings(with the side of your hand) to vary the amount of sustain you would like in order to acheive the sound you want. I would try metallica "sad but true" It would be a good exercise and you like your mettalica and its a slow rythem. Oh also to stop the sound when you are palm muting turn your hand from the side on the strings to the flat part of your hand to fully stop the sound. This is important on some metal songs where the are stops. Like todays newer metal.
  10. Hey Curtis! To say something on the positive side of your playing....I would have to say keep practising. We all did not start out as metal gods! Presistance and goal setting will get you there. Yes tabs are not all trash. Some are misleading because they are written by an beginner, but sometimes when a person is totally lost and can not pick up something by ear they come in very handy. I am saying just be carefull what you read. The best way to learn a song in my opinoin would be: 1. Listen to the song and then play whatever you can grasp from the song. 2. Find out the parts that you can't play or do not sound right. 3. Locate the tabs on the net. There are many sites that are good for this. (too many to list so you can find them for yourself and probably already know them) 4. Learn the parts from the tabs 5. This from your idea curtis, record yourself playing the song as a whole the best you can. 6. Play the actual song, then your recording and find out what worked out good and what sounded off, if you don't know ask someone that knows. (like some of the guys on here.) 7. Use what you have learnt to overcome the problem and become a guitar GOD!! Thats about it. Stupid people like me will be discouraging that say "But if you compare yourself to this guy you suck" Everyone is on different levels and styles. It's the guitar we are trying to use to express how we feel and what we consider our own creations. I know some of this post may sound stupid, but its the best I can do. Best of luck!
  11. Yeah it does, I said hey can I post this topic again in a couple of weeks, I was being sarcastic, get it get it????? Someone already posted the link they have before, I was saying hey can I be dumb as well., there ya go wes, can I explain it any better?? I am tying to be nice here, but anyways, you can tell me if I make any sense, cause you ARE THE MAN!!!! Oh wait MANN!!
  12. Buy a mouse sander at canadian tire or wallmart, use 80 for the whole thing, the little attachment will go the inner horns, but be very carefull not to sand the wood down, serious it will work, take about 4 hours to do. Been dar done dat. The sander is about 35 bucks, do it outside, wear a facemask. as for finishing them, never got that far yet, just know how to sand em, good luck and have fun staring at the guitar for awhile while ya sand er, its not that exciting do it in a couple of days becasue you might screw it up if you loose your consentration. Laterz!
  13. Ok again tabs trash, I hear things and play them, play it once listen and then play it, takes five minutes, I had a guitarist play like you once in a band, he played rythem and sang like opera man, I still have nightmares about performing spoon man with him on stage! Anyways, PALM MUTE, Next post on here I want you to be playing holy wars by megadeth flawless! Check that song out! All palm muting and kicks metallica's a$$, Way more talent in megadeth, ok crap I have to go and listen to hanger 18 and puch a hole in the wall, and smoke a bowl.
