I know Thorn made a machine himself that can cut his T logo and various other inlays with his.
Yep, it's called a CNC - but he did make it himself.
-
I never really give much thought to noise. But it is about the same as the smaller PC but nothing is as loud and the 3hp. I would bet it would be quieter than a skil for sure.
R-
They are indeed very quiet with excellent runout and low vibration. However the collets are a POS, change them for Bosch ones (yes they fit with no modifications) and you'll have (IMO) the best 2hp router there is.

Ruokangas guitars' website used to have a picture of similar piece of equipment, but it was raised to almost horizontal position, like old fashioned parallelogram drawing boards. It seemed to me a much more ergonomic than the table top -model. Too bad the shop tour -pictures have been removed from their web site.
It's still there if you know where to look
-
I didn't time it but less than an hour, probably around 30-40 minutes for the whole guitar.
-
I'll save you a Tele sized piece so you'll have to build it

Lots of reflections in the pics but you get the idea.

It's looking very nice Andy, you must be very excited to finally be getting on with a project.

Hello Everyone, I've just purchased my first CNC router. Its a K2 prototype from WDK guitars. I'll say that I am impressed with this machines solid construction and very excited about the things I will be able to do with it. Eventually. I need help with the software and I'm looking for anyone who can help me learn Mastercam X or make .NCF files for me. I am trying to get up to speed as quickly as possible but Its a waste to have this machine sitting doing nothing while I start my learning curb. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
These guys are very helpful

Yeah Neil nothing stops you now!!! You're making a lot of interesting guitars lately!!!
I look forward to see complete another Les Paul!!! For now that's a great tele, I like the finishing job you do. You use polyurethane, right?
I heard a lot of different way to polish poly. What is it yours? It seems to work very fine.
Gian
Hi Gian,
Yes I use a premium two part Auto poly. I wet sand to 1500 grit taking care not to get water near any exposed wood. Then its over to this
Where I use a medium then fine compound working slowly and applying very little pressure.

No Derek, I haven't bought any wood from eBay as yet.

Well blimey it's been a while but these are nearly done. The Tele should be finished next week and the Junior a couple of weeks after. Having a young daughter and building guitars for other people really does take up a lot of time

Looking good! Dont be suprised if you get a hoard of PM's asking you questions, im gona need all the help i can get my own LP build!
No worries, I'll do my best - I was just looking at your thread funnily enough. If you follow Setchs tutorial and take the time to get the neck angle correct the rest will follow. The carve itself is straight forward enough, just do it slowly and take the time to check the symmetry as you go.
Cheers,
Neil

Maybe I've missed it, but where did you get plans for LP? Also, how thick is mahogany, and how thick is the top?
Superb job! I really like it (that's why I voted for it!).
mullmuzzler | OSSMT
You can download plans from the MIMF forum, order them from Stewmac or buy a set of templates from Roni at www.guitarbuildingtemplates.com
The Guitar is 2 1/4" thick and the top 7/8". The carve is a full 1/2" which is why it the body looks thinner than a standard Les Paul - they're the same overall thickness at the bridge.
I'm so pleased with this one that I'm building another for myself with an insane flame top over a black limba body and neck;

It'll be finished in a charcoal burst with an Ebony binding to the body, Ebony fingerboard and headstock veneer.
Thanks for the vote btw.

you never know whos gonna win. You could have the most perfect guitar but somone not like it because it's got a flame maple top and looks "too good" (Don't laugh, I've heard it before...)
Right that's my excuse for coming third (again) sorted

Just had this from Tim, the new owner
just played it.................what a lovely tone, really, reallyarticulate. The overall vibe is fantastic..........All in all excellent
work..............looking forward to gigging it now.
many, many thanks
Not only is he a superb (and demanding) player, he is of course the guru behind Bareknuckle pickups here in the UK.
Made my day

You do realize your general is, uh, British, right?
Hmmm, I did not know that Ozark, Arkansas was part of the British Empire.
It all was once Drak but quite rightly you kicked us out for trying to bleed you dry - as all Colonial powers did back then.
-
Not the best piece of wood I've ever seen but the nicest I own;

Pah, 32 - you're a Baby
Congrats man, funny how kids steal all the limelight*

Nice lp, i love the heel on it. The finish came out really well. Im starting a LP project tomoro (woo!) and im going to do the heel like yours, i hope you dont mind me stealing that idea.
Not at all - this forum is all about sharing right?

Thanks guys, initial impressions are good but Tim, the owner, will fine tune the electrics once he gets a feel for the guitar.
It weighs in at just over 8 1/2 lbs and feels lighter on a strap but sounds like it weighs 10+ which was the goal all along.

Nearly done, still a bit of wiring and a final setup to go. I had a little break from this one whilst I completed several other projects but I'm pleased with the final results.

oh poop, I forgot scale length lol, sorry.
Scale length is 25", it connects to the upper bout at the 15th fret, and the lower cut-away bout at the 20th fret (single cut body style).

Here's a handy link to a neck angle calculator
