  1. wishing everybody here at ProjectGuitar a great new year with tons of satisfying new builds! It's already been 3 months since I last visited. things have been busy. Nice thing is more people are coming to me for guitar maintenance & repair services. So i've been working on guitars a lot, just not my own ;-) This year will bring some interesting projects for me. I'm awaiting my shipment of acoustics out of Nicaragua which I'll complete and try to sell locally. Also I'm in contact with a local artist to see if I can build him an electric guitar, so that would be my first customer ordered build which is pretty exciting given that so far I've really just built one guitar In stead of posting in multiple threads I'll just combine my stuff in this thread for the year. Will try to get some regular updates. also: I'm preparing a tutorial/demo video of a guitar-staining finish with Keda Dye, which I'll be sharing here ofcourse. all the best! Age
  2. BEER! What's in your fridge?

there's no goat material in the beer ;-) I think the name comes from the fact that it's a heavy beer. Have too many and you'll feel like you've been headbumped by a goat or something LOL
  3. BEER! What's in your fridge?

October's the time of year in Holland for Bokbier (Goat beer) there are a lot of different types around. Dark, slightly bittersweet beers. real good, but just a couple of them will make your head spin!

on another note: not been around much lately. Sadly my father passed away two weeks ago. Sad to see him go, but it was for the better in the end. he taught me a lot on doing things myself: plumbing, carpenting etc. Wouldn't have dreamed of building a guitar without his help and education. Let alone his tools, still using his router, sander and other equipment!

Any news @Mr Natural? been there a couple times myself as well. Last year it happened. It still sucks, but the cliche is true, where one door closes, others will open. It might give you that needed push to look for a different type of career, maybe get some other education or start your own business. anyway, good luck and hope it turns out good for you.

hope things turn out for the better @mikro being in the medical merry-go-round sucks
  7. hmm... difficult choice this month. 4 great builds!
  8. What is this guitar?

hey Mike looks like another version of the Kramer as shown on this page: http://www.richiesamboraguitars.com/kramer/ 3rd one down on the left. maybe a self constructed model? you could ask the website-owner , he'll probably know. Looks like he's pretty big a fan ;-)
  9. First full build from scratch

flying V made from pallet-wood, like it! once finished I definitely would like to hear some sound-clips! good luck. any idea what you'll use to make the neck?
  10. 24 Magnum

    stunning! great job

thanks @MiKro , @Prostheta last job ended last year. in hindsight it was perfect timing with the adoption stuff coming, but it did put a dent in our savings... In the meantime I did get some wood together for the next build. Will post some pics in my thread. @Prostheta, very rarely i suffer headaches, but they really stop you from doing much. Hope it clears up soon
  12. Misc stuff about life. This one goes to eleven...

so, been away for a week or so. Started a new job as a parttime math teacher to have some income next to my private business which needs time to build up. when we just got back from Nicaragua my father has been diagnosed with lymfia-cancer. Given his health & age (79) he can't be given treatment anymore, So now he's at home. Fortunately I live close by so I can visit him and my Mom regularly.

car dealers, always ready to rip you off (except cardealers who are also part of the great guitar community ofcourse ) There's a garage on the other side of my road. No official car dealership, just smart car-techs who help fix stuff at decent cost. Good to have as a neighbour.
  14. good luck +1 and thanks for sharing the documents
  15. Electronics suppliers (non Guitar oriented)

    Thx, I'll check 'm out
  16. Trying to keep cost down in building I'm always looking for alternative suppliers for everything. One thing that always amazes me are the prices for guitar-related electronics. Caps at $10, pots at $12 etc., whereas if you source capacitors for other electronics they cost around $0.05 anybody here ever found an electronics supplier to get stuff at 'normal' prices?
  17. blast from the past- ticket stubs from early 80s

read in Sammy Hagar's Red biography that Mighty Ed van Halen re-recorded all of the guitarwork on the Live: Right Here, Right Now album in his home studio. Still, great guitarwork ;-)
  18. blast from the past- ticket stubs from early 80s

A bit later than early 80's, but here's some of mine..

good call. Got stranded myself one time in a metre of snow outside of my carport. Stupid enough I even tried to get out that day thinking I was going to make it to Brussels ( 300km away ) people just don't expect to be overruled by nature anymore ps . that Bangles guitarist now looks to me like Steven Tyler's sister
  20. 24 Magnum

    very, very neat

the one on the far right was my favourite. hmm, she holds a guitar, maybe that's where the fascination started. all the best to you guys in Texas. Even a big picture in the newspaper over here showing the damage done by the hurricane. that's a lot of water to swallow over there..
  22. Misc stuff about life. This one goes to eleven...

love to hear about that as well @Andyjr1515 Just read she's coming to Holland in October. Man, I loved her picture on my wall in the 80s
  23. just a change to a double locking trem and a new top lock would already be a great improvement. Brass block is optional. Don't use them myself yet, happy with the standard blocks on my Floyds. good luck finding a proper quality replacement for the trem. Looks like you've got some good input here to look for a proper unit.
  24. hi @Guillen , somehow I didn't see the pictures before. looks like your trem is heavily corroded. Next to that it isn't one of the best designs to start with possibly. here's a link to another page http://ibanez.wikia.com/wiki/SLT101 I agree with @curtisa here. Given the value of the guitar and the cost/work to fit an edge trem I'd advise to look at trems that have similar measurements and can be dropped in with no extra work required. question is: what are you looking to achieve? If you want to experiment on modding a guitar and don't mind spending some money then you can go for it. My advice would be to first get your hands on an edge or similar trem so you can see exactly how it will fit. You probably will need to install new studs for the anchors which may require filling up the existing studholes first. Possibly you'll need to do some routing as well to allow for a good floating setup. If you just want to improve the guitar with a better bridge/trem. Have a look at the trems Curtisa mentioned or alternatively look for a used Ibanez RG or S model with a better trem as advised as well in your thread over at Seymour Duncan: http://www.seymourduncan.com/forum/showthread.php?322464-Original-Edge-tremolo-on-Ibanez-S270-Korean
  25. not sure what you're asking here. video what? have you checked out this page: http://ibanez.wikia.com/wiki/Edge it's got some specs and drawings as well that can help you out maybe.
