  1. That guitar is screaming blood red to me with a black neck. It looks so demonic lol.
  2. heck even freehanding it with a router would produce alot cleaner results.
  3. those Laguna's look like sweet tools but just a tad on the pricey side ( you can get a quality mint condition 14" saw or better for way below 1000). Although with a good bandsaw one could turn around and start making profit by rewsawing wood for furniture and luthier stock I guess (if you live near some nice hard maple, spruce, walnut, etc).
  4. not sure about everyone, but I know I want to get a bigger bandsaw. Ever since I got my small 9" GMC I have been wanting to get something with a little more power and ability (need to find me a large saw that will still cut metal though since I been making accent pieces out of thin aluminum and want to resaw my own stuff).
  5. I am pretty sure you have to build that amp as a kit from the looks of it. You could also just buy a power amp unit for a rack and do the same thing.
  6. funny thing is I am currently doing such a mod to my guitar neck. I made some acrylic binding that I sanded to haze it over, and now I am working on the acrylic inlays which will also be hazed over for an ice effect. They will be backlight with blue leds I got from an ebayer known as Besthongkong who specializes in all kinds of leds for cheap (50 leds cost me about 8 bucks with shipping). I had an acrylic pickguard in the process, but it just was to thick and wasn't coming out right (its thickness made it hard to shape properly for pickups). Good luck with your venture.
  7. Yes very nice indeed. Some of your photos inspired me to make something more original on my next build for sure especially since one of my friends did want to see something along the lines of different. Any more exotic designs you could share with us?
  8. The jig itself would be cheap to make but that bit probably costs about 100-200. I know a pair of shapers I seen for crown molding run 120 for a pair.
  9. Hmm I didn't have any problems with my 9" GMC 90 dollar cheapo bandsaw. At first I had a few problems but once I got the guides, bearings, caster, and tension right I can cut thick slabs of mahoganyno probs. Anyhow good work and I can understand about lacking tools. I am only 17(just turned it 2 weeks ago), but slowly I had tools to my collection. I already own a table saw, 18v cordless, 20gallon air compressor with a couple tools and about 200ft of hose (that stuff is hard to keep organized though), my cheapo 9"gmc(really starting to look for a large floor model to do some resawing), dremel, router bits, chiesels etc. I just add on as I need tools. Most of my money doesn't go towards CD's and such. Eventually you will have a shop full. Goodluck with the project and looking real good to.
  10. This sucks Dime bag is killed in my Home State ARGG!! Another thing Ohio will get noted for now(why do we always get noted for negative things I swear). Anyhow did anyone catch the naked bloke on the tele on CNN. I mean you could see the mans wanker (no censorship). This was at the vigil they were holding for dime bag. Also I really don't think the whole right to bear arms thign is wrong. I mean people who want gun for the point of killing someone will get the gun even if its illegal to have one. Its kinda scary though since my uncle is a cop and all that anyone he pulls over could potentially by a serious threat to him. Anymore he just avoids pulling people over for minor things like some cops do. Oh well its the world we live in and boy its a mighty sad place to be.
  11. Somehow I doubt it. Unless your spraying with right next to an an open flame I doubt much would happen. Also as long as you have some way of extracting some of the fumes I wouldn't worry much (maybe its just me). As for a soft finish if you leave it with a heat source on it or put it in the oven (turned off of course) since its dry and stays around 90-100 degree (depends on a few thigns like if there is a pilot or if its electric ignition) then you shouldn't worry. But ya spraying and leaving something in the cold is a no no.
  12. Well I would think its possible for the paint to haze over in the cold.
  13. Ask local schools if they wouldn't mind shooting some paint on it for you. There are some of those auto repair schools that you could ask if they want to try shooting paint on it (never know). Alot of times these places will do work for free(minus cost of materials) since its learning experience for the students. The other option is to build a proper spray booth and vent it outside.
  14. On a computer case I painted I sanded the surfae with 400 grit, primed, sanded with 600, color coated, went through increasingly higher grits of sandpaper until I got to 2000 grit, clear coated, once again went through increasingly higher grit sandpaper on each coat, buffed it with rubbing compound, and finally used polish to take out swirls. Came out to a pretty decent mirror for being metallic paint. Also after each coat of paint I used a heatlamp on it for a couple days to help the paint cure. I plan to use the same method on my body once I touch up the damaged neck paint and add a few more layers of clear (not taking any chances this time probably try and get 10 coats on). Next chance I get I want to talk to a guy I know who owns an auto repair shop with a computerized mixing machine to see if I can score some cheap urethane auto paints off him (just need clear, some primer, and a few simple base coat colors).
  15. Never really had a problem with dupli-color clear. I just got done doing a neck in duplicolor gun metal with there clear coat and its dry and not gummy either(dried it in a hot room). Only problem I have had so far is when I drilled out the holes from the tuners to a larger size(didn't realize the sperzels were bigger then what the neck had in it plus I got primer and filler jammed in there) I accidently peeled some paint off with the masking tape. Also that body is looking real good with that poly on it.
