  1. so hold on, if its only a speaker that vibrates the strings.. then wouldnt one of those fernandes travel guitars work perfectly? picture.. maybe it should be in the middle?
  2. I have a jackson dx10d guitar as my "shred guitar" haha.. ive switched out the licenced floyd and put all black hardware in. i also switched the bridge pickup to an emg81.. not much into actives but i had it laying around. So, since the stock pickup has no where near the output the emg had, i disconnected it. i dont miss it or anything. I do however still have the 3 way switch. I was wondering if anyone knew how to utilize it as a Kill switch, tone modifier, and just normal bridge p/u. I was thinking about the esquire's 2 different tone settings and it seemed like it would work. any ideas? If that is impossible what just a kill switch? Tone Mod Kill switch Bridge ````\``\````|``|````/``/ ``````\``\``|``|``/``/ ````____\``\|``|/``/____ ````|``````````````````| ````|``````````````````| ````|``````````````````| ````|__________________| `````||`||`||`||`||`||`||`|| theres a little diagram (if you ignore the little apostrophy things) you could use to explain it if you can help.. it has 8 little hook up things thanks guys
  3. original esquires were teles without the neck pickup. i believe they came out in 1951 as the single pickup version. The esquire even has the 3 way toggle, but it changed tone settings. the new reissues are routed with the neck pickup and the pickguard is just not cut. some info..: the esquire was originally chosen as name for the fender singlecut, but broadcaster was used. broadcaster was to similar to the name of another guitar at the time and fender was forced to change names. this change period is where the nocasters came into play, they had no name. The name was finally switched to telecaster.
  4. hello! and welcome i guess my first guitar project i brought to an autobody and they sprayed it with the autopaint. a nice 96 mazda white haha.. it came out nicely. they also sprayed the neck clear which turned out incredibly! I still use it sometimes and the finish has held up nicely - its been 5 years.. I had no trouble with my reassembally. I would certainly make sure the neck is strait before finishing, just because straitnecks are nice and i find it easier to work with when their off the body. i had no trouble with the neck being off at an angle, though i had sealed my neck, which is a good idea anyways. Also, i would mask off the neck pocket on the body. This will allow for a cleaner and flatter surface for the neck to be bolted to. i beleive fender originally used auto paint to finish their guitars though im not sure
  5. yeah so sounds like ill go for the stacked single coil option.. i figured it could make the guitar quieter when im using only the bridge or the neck, which are the only settings i use. i heard of the dummy coil in the blues hawk and thought itd be a very inexpensive way to hush it up jnewman, i guess mine are cheap pickups, they have a bar magnet that pops right off and the poles arnt magnetic jester, awesome idea with the rwrp rewiring
  6. Since i dont use the middle pickup on my strat i was wondering if i could switch it with a dummy coil and switch the 5 way to a 3 way to always have the dummy coil on. like a gibson blueshawk but with stratpickups instead of p90s lol as for the dummy coil, it sounds like you just need the coil, no magnet so if i was to take the magnet off of the bottom of the middle pickup it could function as a dummy coil? where would i solder the dummycoil to keep it selected all the time? would i just skip over the 3way selector and go strait to the vol. pot? and finally, would this noticably alter the sound? like would it just sound like a split humbucker or would i still have my strat tone? thanks
  7. what about a thin sheet of veneer? i bet you could pull it off with a good amount of steam and a MONSTER bag of sand.. not sure though
  8. Im ageing a stratocaster, ive gotten all the dings and stuff, but oxidizing the bridge and the finish is throwing me off. Is there any way to yellow the finish? its acryllic.. and the hardware, i tried putting it over muriatic acid, haha.. a week and nothing happened.. so i dipped it in and hung it over it burned all the threading out! i learned my lesson though.. Is there any site with ageing tutorials? i havent seen any! Or does anyone know anything that can help me out thanks
  9. wait i thought guitars were normally finished with car paint? I thought car paint is acryllic paint which is what they use on guitars is it not? im not talking about some of the higher quality nitrocellulose finishes that age, i thought the standard was acryllic?
  10. I would start out with one of those Saga kits.. or if you have an extra guitar laying around take it totally apart and put it back together.. it gives you a muchh better understanding for guitars.. as for tools.. i made my first guitar with a $99 router and some other basic hand tools.. but the router was my only powertool.. Granted its not the most well sanded.. routers really arnt that bad if you set up guides to make sure you come out with a strait line.. its just the freehand stuff thatll kill you as for making your first guitar go for it man, id pick up a neck from somewhere.. like rondomusic.net they have some nice cheap ones.. and get some wood.. mine was 4 2x4's glued together, i didnt really care how it sounded, which turned out suprisingly weel.. but it gave the the expirience to start on a new one with some real wood
  11. I've been looking everywhere for a guide on the best way to remove a set neck.. the only thing i could find was one about a broken neck les paul.. and it looks like they had to remove the fretboard to take the neck off.. I dont really want to do that.. Is there any easier way?
  12. yeah chestnut* i know it was a popular wood haha my room has 4"x6" chestnut rafters going across it, but ive never seen a guitar made of it, but it could be just because its not widely avalible and isnt that amazing but if its dense doesnt that mean it will be a good tone wood? or is that not important
  13. I have some old chessnut boards that we found renovating our old 1743 house, i was wondering if anyones had any expirience with it as a tone wood.. whats it like.. i dont really know how to tell. I figured since its been resting on rafters since well.. the 1740's with no use at all, itd be nice and aged, if that even matters.
