It pops just like any mechanical switch pops (ie like those nasty 'true bypass' pedals pop when you hit them on and off). You can try putting 1M resistors from the hot to ground to try and minimise the popping, also higher quality switches can help (don't know how good the switch you have is). S

If you look in the preamp manual it has a wiring diagram for mono only operation in there S

Pitch shifters that work on octave functions (ie up or down an octave) are fairly simple to achieve. Look for things like the MXR blue box, a couple of Dan Armstrong boxes (cant remember names off hand, but there's deffo an octave up one). Schematics for some of the older boss oxtavers are available from various places online. Anything further than straight octaves is a little more difficult. And to be honest, its probably cheaper to buy one of the behringer pitch shifters (they're not bad actually!). S

There was a bloke on ebay who was selling them a while ago. I bought 4!! Had a look through my ebay history to find name, but cant find it sorry. But they do pop up from time to time on ebay. They're very similar (in size etc) to the ones WD music sell, cept with the spoke end. S

SM57's in front of two 1x12 cabs. on the grill cloth about 4-5cm from the middle of the speaker, both into a M-Audio project mix. That or a Line 6 UX-1 if i'm feeling lazy S

I use cocobolo for all my fretboards. Mainly because its cheaper than indian rosewood where i get my wood from . But the amount of sheen ya can get off the stuff by sanding is amazing... Have had a few probs glueing it in the past.... any suggestions? S

This is true! The other way of doing it is the mesa boogie style three jack system with a jack for whole cab mono operation and two jacks for stereo Biamping. Pretty easy to wire up, just wire the stereo jacks as you would, half the cab to each jack in series or parallel or whatever, then continue both stereo connections to the mono jack. Works well S

If you use switching jacks you can do it so you dont need the switch, and the cab will automatically switch to stereo if more than one jack is plugged in

Hey guys! Been saving up for a new router for a while (well, i lie... two). I'm looking at getting a new 1/2" beast for the router table (fed up of the cheap POS in it at the mo) and a new little 1/4" for doing pickup cavities and hand work etc... The 1/4" is sorted and should arrive soon. But i was wondering what models people recommend for 1/2" ones? Bare in mind i'm in britain so need a 240v version!! Cheers! S

You have it wired wrong. The reason it does nothing when you pull the push pull pot up is because the wire to the varitone isnt connected to anything. You need a wire to the middle push pull switch lug to the middle tag of the pot. Then it should work. Remember you wired it to the hot output of the jack and it worked? when the switch is active it needs to be connected to that. at the moment it isnt. So middle switch lug to middle volume pot lug and ur home and dry. As for not working as well as you'd hoped, thats one of the things with varitones, they can take a while to get the values right of the capacitors. As Big D, seems to do alot of em. S

Distortions do work reasonably well in the actual guitar (as matt bellamy has shown ) but, only if you don't use any filter type effects after them IMO. People tend to think its simpler having the effects onboard, but you have to piss around with powering the damn things (not too bad as simple distortion circuits dont draw much power) and switching (how many knobs do you want on your axe?!). Personally, i tried it, not worth the bother. But if you want to try, run along to Tonepad.com or generalguitargadgets.com and have a look at some of the simple distrtion circuits there for a start. S

Who hasn't tried a recto? Some people find them a bit fuzzy, but from my experience these are people plugging them into rubbish (marshall!) cabs. Same thing happens with high end engl amps and things like kranks. If you don't plug em into the cab designed for em they can sound a little... rubbish. S

right out of our list.... Bogner Uberschall - Only had a go on one for 2 mins... honestly wasnt impressed! VHT Pitbull - Never tried that specific model, but played one of their power amps and was v. impressed Framus Cobra - Don't go there... Some bands i know have endorsments with framus and use their support band's 5150s on tour Peavey 5150 II - Not bad, not very.... versatile.... kind of a one trick pony IMO Krankenstein - Never played one, but heard Krank amps (at an Arch Enemy gig) and they sounded wicked. Meteoro Mak 3000 - A what? Boogie Mark IV - A suprising one... v. versatile, from cleanest clean to stupidest metal. And build like a brick outhouse. Laney is indeed a good idea. The VH range are good, as are the TT range. But, Engl. For the price you're looking at, check out their special edition head (6L6 version is better than EL34 in my opinion..) S

i got the wire i still use for guitar electrics from maplin. bought about 5 metres about 5 or 6 years ago... still have most of it left. cost 40p if memory serves. think they undercharged me, but hell! S

i tend to get mine from auto paint in st. helens (google it!) the bloke there is very helpful and the prices are reasonable. S

Just looked in melvyn hiscock's book and he has a guitar in there with a floyd and sperzel lockers... so spose it'd work?! Any of the floyd crew got any input? S

Have a look at some of Nuno bettencourt's early washburns. someof them have the locking nuts after the normal nut. you could do it like that i suppose. Don't know how well locking tuners would work. In principle probably would! but i dunno in practice (i hate floyds!) S

I think we have a future pro on our hands Nuff said. Headstock works really well btw. S
