  1. Kudos for sticking to your own vision - this is going to be interesting Between you and Wademeister you'll have a definite theme going, and I'm not being sarcastic - keep those pics coming! http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=10342
  2. This is a game I find hard to resist The part of the original design I liked best is the rear upper bout, so... It needs a bit more work, but you get the idea
  3. Rather reminiscent of Alembic's Dragon's Wing...
  4. Agree about the controls. I'd also replace that ugly Dean headstock with something classier... At the very least make it smaller - it's way too big with respect to the body, and might even make the whole thing neck heavy.
  5. Chalk up another vote for Phil... Excellent line-up this month as always, only more so I see no reason to come up with a comment of my own when Skibum has said it all and said it so well (in Phil's thread):
  6. Not really There's only so much gnawing and sawing you can do to the basic V shape, after all... and Matt's has a lot more class than the Moser, which looks cartoonish and downright tacky
  7. Hey Matt - I like both designs, and I'd say you had the right idea from the start: 1. keeping the purpleheart V the way it is (although not having seen the glue line flaw you mention I'm not quite sure I'm making sense)... I love this body the way it is... ...and... 2. ...using your newest design for the oak V. If you keep its sides angular and thick enough it won't look anything like the Bastard V Not much in common, really - the Moser is an HR Giger nightmare, and yours is actually quite understated in comparison :D
  8. Why not strip it of its humbuckers and call it a MIDI controller? Or remplace the pickups with active EMG's - would probably work for hi-gain applications (I did NOT say metal ) wouldn't it? I've heard that those GraphTech synthetic saddles kill most of the snap - might also be part of the problem? Drak, that lizard skin on the Warlock was a real beaut!
  9. Excellent work, Matt - and fast, too... I can see this one with a clear finish, two P-90's and an understated headstock - but somehow I suspect you're not gonna go that route KUTGW!
  10. Just gorgeous Love that art-deco vibe... any chance of a sound sample?
  11. I really like all four entries !!! The fretless V has a wonderful cello vibe going... Shame about the dodgy pic quality that doesn't really let one make an informed decision. Matt's Impaler is a true original, which is no small feat, and the purpleheart is an inspired choice for such an aggressive design... Toddler's neck-through is very well thought out and put together - very attractive, just a bit too glossy for my taste (might have been even more beautiful with matching veneer on headstock). As for the Ormsby... well I'm a sucker for headless guitars, there isn't a classier shape around than the Tele's... and it's pretty much flawless in execution (and it's the only one I've heard, too, which defo counts for something)... So the Gargoyle it is for me this time, with the Impaler a very, very close second... but again... (please go back to top...)
  12. No reason to laugh at your doodlings - in fact I luurve the lower wing... It's a stronger design than the deadhead V I'd also ask my girl about torture (she certainly knows a lot about that too ), but really, what's with the fixation with killin' implements ? Anyway, 'nother name you might want to consider, especially if you're going to go for that headstock would be "The Claw"... you could even add graphics such as this on the fingerboard or headstock:
  13. I hear ya - this is going to be one wicked axe (Hadn't realised you were set on using that bolt on neck you showed on the first page - otherwise I wouldn't have suggested shifting the neck forward.)
  14. The scratch plate idea makes perfect sense - might not be feasible depending on the aluminium sheet's thickness, though (?) Otherwise, Pete, you've come up with many interesting body designs here! I like your last one, but you might want to line up the forward edge of the upper horn with that of the lower horn... All well and good - but you've kinda lost the Hendrix vibe you said you were after, haven't ya? I'll quit bugging ya now, its a promise (the black shape would be the fingerboard, not the neck, btw - meaning the neck can extend much more into the body)
  15. Nope All I did was move the neck out a little (2/3 frets) and therefore elongate the neck joint on the top side, which gives the illusion of a deeper cutaway - but the horns are completely untouched. The original pic: My scale-length-challenged suggestion: (As mentioned before, I also shaved off part of the body bottom to shorten the thing a bit and reflect the horns' diagonal - cuts down a bit on the 'heaviness' of the reversed body)
  16. Looks like you've got a dozen future projects on your hands with all those neat variations However this is about a reversed Strat... You could just move the neck out a bit (and the bridge, and the pickups...), take some material off the bottom to offset the increased neck length and give more zing to the body, and relocate the controls where you want them - something like this: Not so different from a leftie 24-fret Strat, in fact - wrong scale length notwithstanding (just a quick Photoshop tweak )... Just make up your own Dali-ed up pickguard in wood, plastic... or aluminum...
  17. So yer saying pink isn't an evil color? I beg to differ Matt, remember that even Count Dracula wasn't averse to wearing the odd bit of lace (That purpleheart Impaler is great as it is... and it gets its message across very well thank you - no need to belabour the point)
  18. This has got to be one of the classiest modern interpretations of the Fender classic I've seen. Absolutely wonderful - and it doesn't sound half bad either
  19. Those two outdoor pictures really show the body to advantage - you might consider shooting a few pics of the completed axe in the same light and hands... Great job on this body, Matt - design & workmanship - it's a beaut
  20. So is that a good thing then? As far as this semi-lurker is concerned, DEFINITELY - I absolutely love the concept and execution, and I can't wait for pics of the whole thing. Great stuff - KUTGW!
  21. Seconded - that body shape is killer, and the whole thing looks great! You might want to protect your design somehow before one of the big boys runs away with it
  22. YES! Those tuners seem like quite the breakthrough (never touched 'em myself, though)... See what Todd Keehn did with them a while ago (the whole site is quite interesting, btw):
  23. I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. Show me where anyone has made a bocaster? Sure it's sorta like bodidly but not really. It's deffintly a unique design. ← Hey GodinSD - sure, maiming a Tele so has to win one *some* points No offense, Idch, your axe looks great (and it IS a Bo Diddley knockoff, not that theres anything wrong with it) and yer next one will be miles better... I love the doubleneck Strat too, not to mention all the other ones - but one only gets 1 vote
  24. Hey guys - 'nother noob here I voted for Phil's bass because as someone else put it, it's the only truly original design in the running (but each and every single contender's oeuvre is mighty impressive and I'll be happy if I ever manage to do half as well ). Looking forward to a long and happy stay on this forum - been lurking for a while and I gotta say - it's one of the best around
