  1. For the record, a baritone instrument is one that sounds one octave lower than the regular one.

In the case of guitars the reason for the extended scale is to be able to use heavier gauge and increase the string tension. On my 25" scale 7 string the tension of the B string is about right using 60's, anything lighter and it is too low. On an extended scale ( like 27"), a 52-54 string can be tuned down to A and still maintain a decent tension.

I don't really understand the link between first and second part of your post... Baritone guitars are tuned to A most of the times or am I mistaken? That's not an octave lower... Or is "baritone" a term which was used incorrectly (like "tremolo") when it came to electric guitar?

  2. can anyone tell if the binding it plastic or maple? imho maple is way better for binding, it looks better and when using it on the neck you dont have to cut the tangs off

Yes you do, unless you're deliberately botching the job. Slots which extend through the binding look a mess, and utterly defeat the cosmetic and practical purpose of binding! Clip the tang, or leave it unbound - there is no inbetween :D

    +1

  3. Well the guitar above sold at the London Guitar Show yesterday :D Its gone to a guy called Dann from a new band called Vanton (myspace.com/vanton), he phoned me up yesterday evening to say how happy he was with it.

the guitar shop that were selling it for me have requested a few more to take to the next guitar show in november. B) Apparently it was getting a hell of a lot of interest all day. They guy that brought it told me he walked past it 3 times and it always had a crowd around it, he finally had to buy it when he saw somebody taking a photo with his mobile and texting it to his mate.

I still aint a proffessional luthier but this is a bloody big step in the right direction. Still not into the huge profit area but i feel confident i can slowly start to raise prices till i am

Man, that's just GREAT. I can't even imagine how good it must feel for you *envious*

    :D

  4. As far as I know, it is a Korean-made RG, AANJ, with Infinity pickups, golden hardware, lo-trs (or lo-trs ii - cannot quite make out) and HSH pickup configuration... Flamed maple top and white binding around the body...

I hope someone of you Ibanez cracks out there :D can help me. I really love the body finish.

    Edit: The trem's a Lo-trs, not a Lo-Trs II...

  5. Pagelli has made a guitar with an Alesis AirFX built into it... Now that's way more cool :D

Edit: I remember now it was called the "Avantair" guitar. Here are some specs:

    «AVANTAIR»-Guitar

The guitar, called «Avantair», includes an Alesis «Airfx».

By just moving your hand while playing towards the sensor, you can easily change all the parameters of the built-in effects!

    The effects are:

Whammy, Tremolo, Chorus, Phraser, Flanger, Wah-Wah, Touch Wah, Seeker, Ringmodulation, Tonegenerator and spec. Effects. Holdpossibility of the changed effect.

No knowledge of programming is necessary.

Just plug in and play neverheard sounds!

Of course you can use the «Avantair» as a normal guitar. (Bypass-Switch)
