  1. Rashin, outstanding work. I'd also be interested in seeing the back.
  2. Hey, some crap came up and it looks like I won't be able to buy either one. Sorry man, I really really wanted that cherry burst. Good luck on your eBay adventures.
  3. Just did. I've posted on a lot of local sites, so hopefully someone will be looking for a cab!
  4. Can you hold one of them (preferably the cherry burst) for a couple of days? I will definitely buy one, maybe both.
  5. Located in Charlotte, NC. Did the cherry burst jag in your latest pic post get mixed up with a tele? This is what I'm after. Does it include only pickups, or all hardware?
  6. How much for the cherry burst or powder blue full Jaguar? Very interested.
  7. I'm looking to sell my Marshall 1960A 4X12 cab. Going to try on here first and then list it on eBay if there's no one interested on here in the next few days. I bought this cab around 3 months ago and just need the money more than the cab. I'm trying to get at least $500 out of this since it's basically in brand new condition. It's got a few scuffs and has never been gigged with. Kept in a smoke-free environment. Basically it's a 300 watt beast. Runs mono @ 4/16 ohms, stereo @ 8 ohms per channel. I have never driven the speakers extremely hard, but have cranked it enough to know that they do not easily break up. I pushed my Music Man HD130 head through these until my ears (ear plugs in use) couldn't take the volume anymore. Literally, things falling off the walls, everything shaking. This thing was still crystal clear. So, I'm trying to do $600 shipped within the contiguous 48 states, or $500 local pickup/delivered within 50 miles (plus $20 delivery cost). I am located in Charlotte, NC near Mt. Holly. If shipped, I prefer Paypal. If delivered or pickup, Paypal or cash. If you're interested, contact me on here or at: tim [dot] dufrane [at] gmail [dot] com I'll try to get pics up after work tomorrow. Thanks!
  8. So, I wired this beast up last night and tried it with my Music Man head. Dear god, the bass response is incredible. The highs are silky and smooth, and the mids have that woody tone. I haven't even put the back on yet! To my surprise, these are actually 100W speakers (I thought they were only 50) and this thing sounds louder than my 300W Marshall cab. I'm definitely going to have to port this once the back gets on because I'm afraid it would make something explode. I highlyyyyyyyy recommend building your own cab. It's cheap, easy, and you can get the exact character you want by following pretty simple guidelines.
  9. Hi, my name is Tim. I am retarded and don't read well enough.
  10. There really is no scientific proof that brand makes a difference, it's all in hearing them. Switching from GT EL34s to JJ EL34s in my amp made a world of difference. What was cold and brittle is now warm, smooth, saturated, beautiful.
  11. Yep, planning on covering with tolex. Next one is going to be a 1960B dovetail joint cab. Will definitely be rounding off and it should look a lot nicer.
  12. Here's a pic of the cab halfway done. As you can see it's all butt joints and screws. Not the prettiest thing but it's solid. I'm still very new to carpentry, so I'm practicing dovetail/mitre/rabbet joints for the next build. Cut the baffle freehand with the sabre saw, but I don't think I did that horrible of a job surprisingly. Still need to construct the closed-back and top bracing and get the rest of the hardware/tolex/grille cloth (so probably more hours of work than I've put into it so far still to come?). I'm thinking of using weather stripping to seal the areas prone to air escaping. Would this work?
  13. Thanks for the input, guys. I've got the cab nearly complete. Constructing the baffle tomorrow. I did plan on doing the two halves for the back, very convenient and I enjoy being able to convert easily for different situations. Right now I'm going to put in some Celestion Rocket 50s because they're already in a cab I don't use, but probably will put in some Patriots or Hellatones once some money comes in. The strength of the cab seems very good so far. I stood in the middle of it without it even flexing, and so did my dad (210 pounds, big guy). Won't do pics this time because there are some aspects on it I'm not too proud of, but next time (which will definitely be soon, this is addictive) I'll do a full-blown tutorial. Already have a 1960A cab, but next project will probably be a 1960B replica. So far, not including speakers and the baffle/bracing material, this project has cost me a grand total of $18. Hopefully it will sound good! I'll take a pic once the baffle is on tomorrow. Any decent tolex suppliers online?
  14. I'm building a 2x12 guitar cabinet right now and making it oversized in hopes that it will increase bass response. Am I going about this the wrong way? The frame right now is 28"x18"x17". I plan on doing a closed back and straight baffle, possibly filling with insulation. Wood is 1/2" pine all the way through and baffle is probably going to be 1" pine. Is there any chance that this is going to have resonant bass response without being too farty? What are some factors that affect frequency response in terms of cabinet design vs. wood selection?
  15. Seeing as the search function isn't working, guess I'll ask this anyway. I'm looking at picking up a Peavey VTM-120 from Sam Ash. I'll be trading a Line 6 Flextone II HD for it along with (hopefully) a reverb pedal. I'm first going to try to talk someone into trading an old Fender that sounds incredible for it, but that's not likely to happen. Anyway, I'm wondering what the reliability on these amps is like. I think that I read it's fixed bias, so is that going to be an issue? When I played it it sounded great (with the exception of a scratchy gain pot (not too big of a deal since I won't be messing with that live and will give it a good cleaning) and a sensitive high input jack (I'll replace, and probably get some $ knocked off too!)) but I have read that these amps can sometimes have issues. Anything in particular I should watch out/look for on it to tell if it'll treat me nicely, or is it basically a shot in the dark?
  16. I picked up the 15-pack of 2N2222s yesterday, so I'll be working with those tonight. I usually don't dive right in to something without researching first, but since this is so inexpensive, might as well. I'll be reading up in my huge book today about them, so hopefully that will save a few.
  17. I'm getting to the stage where I want to start experimenting with different types of circuits for distortion pedals. I've done a 386-based circuit that gave a synth-like grind which I will be putting into pedal form very soon, and a 741-based circuit that I didn't enjoy very much but got to work (which at this point is really the only thing that matters, right?!). Now I want to venture into transistor distortion but the stock at Radio Shack is pretty limited. I'm only spending about $.50 per transistor, so not much damage done if they're unuseable, but what are some transistors readily available at RS to use in a distortion circuit? Will pretty much any NPN silicon transistor do the trick in one way or another? I'm still not sure exactly what role transistors play in amplifying a signal (but that's the whole point in experimenting!) or what the differences between them are. I picked up 3 types of them, so either you guys can help me out and/or I'll find out once I get home and build the circuit! Apologies if this has been answered before, kindly direct me if that's the case. Thanks in advance for any help offered!
  18. Makes sense. I personally love my Duncan PAF Pro but hated the Screamin' Demon. However, the PAF wasn't worth $50 by any means. I would have paid around $70 each for these pickups, because they have exceeded my expectations and basically all other pickups I have used. I'm about to order a set of Klusons, so hopefully they'll treat me as well as they did you. Thanks for helping me with that info.
  19. Oh, I meant all over the internet. Tons and tons of mixed reviews. I've got a couple questions. Anyone have any experience with the Kluson tuners they're selling? Also, how do they sell these pickups for so cheap?
  20. So I have been looking for some pickups for my newly purchased Epi LP (the pickups have such low output, not even worth keeping). I found mixed reviews about GFS pickups and decided that for $35 for bridge/neck set, how could I go wrong? Received them this morning, installed them, and holy wow, they sound great. Comparable to my Seymour Duncan PAF or Gibby 498T. I am delighted with the quality of these pickups and thought that I'd spread the joy in case anyone else is thinking about getting these but are put off by bad reviews. They came professionally packaged and in pristine quality. The leads were just long enough but seem well-made. The leads are 4-conductor shielded. Can't wait to hear these on my main rig. Anyway, that's all.
  21. I've had a Line 6 Flextone II head for about 2 years now. It's been dependable and sounds pretty good too. I've heard the combos are alright, but the head is great. I got mine for $300 and you could get a cab from Avatar for around the same price. So $650 for a potential 300 watts of power and tons of effects, modelling, etc.. A pretty good deal if you don't plan on playing out and really just want flexibility in your tone.
  22. It's in basically new condition. Forgot to mention that I got some tuners, three packs of strings, a nice strap, and a large pack of Dunlop picks thrown in too. So really, it was more like $350-360. Anyway, I feel really good about it now. Definitely renewed my faith in some people at Guitar Center.
  23. Currently: Music Man HD130 + Marshall 1960A 4x12 Line 6 Flextone II HD + Peavey 412 slant with Celestion Rocket 50s Boss MT-2 + Boss BD-2 + Boss DD-6 + Boss TU-2 + Homemade A/B/Y + Homemade 386-based synth distortion 2001 Gibson SG + 1998 Epi LP Sparkle top + Washburn Maverick Not the greatest gear in the world but it sounds beautiful.
  24. So, here's the deal. I went to Guitar Center to get strings. I walked out with an Epiphone LP LE sparkle top for $400. Honestly, the thing plays better than any LP I've ever touched. Is this unusual? I've played Epiphones before and they're alright for beginner guitars and not much else. But this, holy crap, I just sat there sweeping for about an hour (much to the annoyance of my employer). The neck and action are just superb. Even the pickups sound great. Did I get a good deal here or am I just overly excited about finding an Epiphone that sounds + plays well? What are some great finds that you guys weren't expecting?
