  1. Thinking about purchasing the Shop Fox buffing arbor from Grizzly. I was wondering if I could get some reviews on it first.
  2. WOW, the zebra and the lacewood are my two favorites. I have a custom lacewood super strat I assembled a few years ago that I aboslutely love. However, I have always had a thing for zebrawood. What are going to use for pickups and wiring configuration?
  3. Thought I would introduce myself. I am a 46 yr old guitar tech here in MA. Definitely consider myself more of a 'fixer' than a builder. I have been doing this type of work for a long time. It is definitely a lot of fun for me. I have been lurking here for awhile and recently registered. I have learn soo much already about tool building here. Hoping that I can share something at some point and not just be a taker all the time. Till then I am happy to drain as much as I can from the knowledgable bunch here. Jeff KNL Guitar Repair
  4. No problem. But if you look at the HTC base you can just remove the rubber feet and use bolts to tattach it to the floor no welding is necessary. just a hammer drill for the concrete. I think the crank arm is worth the extra $20. That's a possiblity. I like the crank feature as well.
  5. Also found this one http://shopping.canoe.ca/shop/product--cat...Id_3147856.html. Not sure what the shipping would be but looks like another possiblity.
  6. The expensive one.... http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Vises/Sh...r_Vise_Set.html The cheap one http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Disp...temnumber=95357 Thanks, Looks like the Harbor Freight one will do the trick. And yes I was trying to avoid buying the StewMac one. Pretty sure that I have seen the exact one that StewMac sells, somewhere else over the years. I was thinking that there was a version in a truck mechanics catalog. Woodenspoke, Thanks also I am looking for a bolt down version. Although I do like the overall design better. Another reason to improve my welding skills I guess.
  7. I am looking for an adjustable height grinder base. My plan is to builb a shop standt with angle vise for my neck jig. I have found some products but nothing readily available in the US. Any ideas??? I would like a bolt down base.
  8. After lurking here for a bit and finally registering this was inspired by some chat here. Just ordered a 1/2 ton arbor press from evil bay,$39.99 delivered, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=160329541618. Not sure whether I will attempt to build my own caul and inserts yet. Even if I order the set from Stew and Mac, I figure I will be saving $70.00 off their premade version. I am also in the process of gathering the parts for a neck jig. Figure I will be into it for around $50-$70. Which is a big improvement over the $390.00 delivered price from S and M. Thanks for the inspirations and the information. I will try to get around to posting the fret press pics. The neck jig will almost surely be an exact copy of this http://www.groupwhere.net/guitars/NeckJig.doc. Rock On
  9. The roughness is on the tops of the frets, yes? Seems like the steel wool you used wasn't fine enough. Get some 0000 and try again.
