  1. Agreed! Those are beautiful necks you have going there!
  2. Thanks, Maull. Well, it's done. I just got it strung up tonight for the first time. It's a good player, but it'll need a bit of time to settle and get its proper setup. It does suffer a bit of neck dive as well, but nothing too bad. My camera flash aint having it, so I'll get some pics tomorrow.
  3. Looks like you got the chops! This is gonna be sweet. I honestly thought it was more than one build after reading the title.
  4. pup depth on several factory guitars Floyd Rose strat :19mm or close to 3/4" Jackson RR3 : 19mm Washburn strat : 18mm 3 Squiers, two with PG, one without- all three were 20mm or a hair past 3/4" Ibanez jem77fp : 19mm Interestlingly enough ,most of them have 1.5" of space between the Low E saddle and the bridge pup poles . IDK about standard, but there's some averages.
  5. do you have enough depth to add a wood "baseplate" to the cavities? if not, a metal baseplate might be your only solution. You could epoxy it in and tap it to fit your pup screws. good luck.
  6. that color combo suits that shape very well. nice going so far.
  7. Congrats on the build thusfar! It's lookin real nice, the HS veneer is a nice touch.
  8. don't be. it's all opinion anyway and these topics have been discussed/argued over before. [/beating a dead horse] Do up some sound samples and post 'em. Without scientific evidence it can't be proven, or so you'll be told.
  9. welcome back. We post about all kinds of stuff, feel free to post up whatever you'd like.
  10. Get sad. Express yourself with your guitar. That is all.
  11. That's tasty! In the right hands, it should be a killer. Congrats.
  12. It will be O.K. I made a neck with only two screws and it worked good. Like only B and C. Fender uses a 3 screw neck too. You should be fine, in my opinion.
  13. I have used cherry for bodies and necks. I wouldn't write it off as "brighter than maple", and would judge each piece on its own merit. I just finished a maple and cherry semi-hollow , which is very "woody"-sounding and not bright at all. On the other hand, i also did up a maple and black walnut semi-hollow with a mahogany neck and it is much brighter sounding, even plugged in.
  14. Cheers on the trophy. Well deserved! I want to comment on the professionalism of your booth. Very nice. The cards are a great touch. I know some Sabbath so if I ever get to N.C., I'm jammin on the HOD. \m/ \m/
  15. Best Ibby copy I've ever seen. I'd much rather own one of yours, to be honest !! They are just amazing.
  16. you did good. don't forget to tally your hours of labor spent. Time is money, too. and IDK about getting $710 back out of it. you made it pretty, but i don't think it'll be a profitable adventure. As a player though, it looks like a good one from here. Sound clips?? Would like to hear it. I have a Blues Saraceno Trembucker that i LOVE. I'd like to hear the difference between it and the George Lynch version.
  17. As stated earlier, the feel of those particular scales and perp that location might feel odd. That thing has some wild looking pitch at the first fret , i could see how your hand wouldn't cooperate. FWIW i use a 25.5" on top and a 24.75 inch on the bottom because I like the feel of a Fender for rythym strings and Gibby's for lead silkiness. The combo of those and a 5th fret perp allows me to use a regular Floyd Rose base for a bridge and my finger sits parallel to the 0 fret in the first position, and all the way down the neck it follows the contour of the slant. multiscale has its purpose ,but there are soo many varieties, finding one that works for you might not be worth the effort. but hey- you built a nice looking guitar and gave some business to a few forum members. Not a bad deal at all, IMO.
  18. you can use a blend pot instead of a switch. My Octobass doesn't have a switch so I know it can be done. .... try wiring one pot with both pups. The two outer lugs would get the hot signals and the center lug would be the output. Wouldn't really work as a volume pot anymore tho.
  19. Off the charts. Nice inlay work! This is a really unique build, i like it a bunch.
  20. yup.... started the pore-filling. Scraped back and sanded. found some flaws. sanded 'em out and had to re-pore fill some spots. scraped back and sanded one last time . Began the clear coats. I have 2 on now, i'll scuff and add a few more before I cut and buff. pics then
  21. Those are incredible. You do amazing work !
  22. Good luck chasing that hum. In the meantime - WOW. What a beautiful guitar you built !
