  1. Another long-lost thread from the forum hiccup. I wanted to re-paint one of my very first builds..... so i stripped off the paint. ...... then i un-glued the "set-neck" i had done to it. . and removed the white pine top i had attached to it too. Also marked out some high-tech chambering ideas...........
  2. forget the mirror like polish job....... never mind the perfect glossiness of this beauty .... WHAT KIND OF GUITAR STAND IS IT ON ?????? It appears to be floating /not touching the stand...... what gives?
  3. Thanks fella's. This was one of my first builds, but it took a lot of correcting to see it to where it is now. Still needs : a TR cover ,my logo re-burned and some black paint in the sound-holes. here's some more shots: You can see the cherry "binding" I used as one of the saves . I fudged up the fretboard and had to recover. Here she is under a flash instead of sunlight. Playin' with shadows....... and thats that. It has a different tone than my solid-body guitars and I learned a LOT from this build so ugly or not - I still dig it.
  4. and here's the back........ you can see one of my finish mistakes in that last shot.
  5. and this was the first finish. Home spun pickup mounts and all..... and the back, and thats all the pics I have of the build until now.......
  6. ^^ mistake # 1 was laying out the pickup for a 25.5" scale length and having to make the pup route hugemongous. VV so - there she is with a few family members that are long done.
  7. here you can see the body make-up : Cherry back ,pine center with little Teak slabs to support the neck. Maple top, neck and FB. and there was the first incarnation of the guitar.........
  8. I started a heavily chambered build back in November of 2009. The forum crash lost all the posts , but the thing is finally done despite numerous mistakes and multiple shelvings. I considered scrapping the whole project many many times. Now that its done and strung up, I'm glad I kept on with it. Here's some history: and some specs: 24.75" scale length 22 frets 2 humbuckers, 3 way blade switch, V-V-T knobs, bridge volume is a push/pull for coil tap. Fender bass frets 0 fret with guide fret 3 per side HS designed as a 4+2 clone. Bookmatched Cherry back BM'd flame maple top and fretboard Neck-through Maple/Teak/Maple 12 degree scarf joint Gold hardware ::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Moar history shots: internet is acting odd. will continue in a bit..........
  9. I wired it today, and all is well. I even got lucky on the 50/50 shot for which lug was which. It coil taps upon lifting, so luck was on my side. Thanks again for the help.
  10. Now where's the fun in THAT?!? guitar wiring is painfully simple. If you're getting nothing from the jack, it must be grounding out along the line somewhere. Try wiring direct to a cord from the pups. If that works, you know it aint the pups. did you use sheiding tape?
  11. Thanks Wez. Coil tap is all I'm after, so if it works for that, I'm o.k. with it. I'll wire it up and see what happens. \m/ \m/
  12. I purchased an Allparts EP 4486_000 to use as a coil split on a recent build. It's an odd pot, having three prongs up top like a normal pot, but the bottom is where I'm confused. It has two prongs sticking out of a black plastic cap under the "normal" pot. Not your typical DPDT switch underneath like I'm used to. Searching has turned up nothing, and on the Allparts website, it shows the 4486 as a DPDT under a normal pot. which it is not. :/ anyone have any experience with this pot or have any idea why there's two prongs instead of three??
  13. This is beautiful. You do amazing things with boards ! Does it sound good?
  14. Some of your build techniques are very similar to mine. We both use minimal tools to work the boards down to what we need. jointers, planers and sanders would be great, but I don't have them, so hand sawing, jigsawing and chiseling are used instead. I have found that a circular saw makes neck shaping much simpler, since its easier to cut a long straight line than a jigsaw. Same with body cutouts, you can use the circ saw to chop away most of the excess body, then the jigsaw doesn't tend to wander off. I really like the backwards logos on the headstock. 1 cool point for that one.
  15. hence my confusion...... on a 25.5" scale, it's only bout 14.25" to the 10th fret. 18.5 would be somwhere between the 5th and 6th. so I'm guessing it's only equal in pitch, not actual scale length. Takes me a bit sometimes, but I catch on. Regardless- have a blast with it. It'll be coo when it's done.
  16. I thought the gryphon had a 14.25" scale length . ?? I forget the exact number Joe ( Mr. Veillette ) said, but he explained it like this: "... it's basicly like a guitar capoed at the 10th fret " . Dave Matthews raves about it. I think they're pretty dang cool myself.
  17. I vote for new board. Maple isn't that expensive and you can call the loss a learning experience. hang the bad one up to remind you of the pain. it'll keep you from doing it again. I just see the time and effort of repairing an unattached board to be futile. Slap a good one on the first time around. says me.
  18. Put a 250k volume pot on that dimebucker and it'll be much more mid-rangey / less brite. The guitar sounds great- the kid plays real good too. Congrats on both you should be proud.
  19. It was a pain in the ash to get it right, lol. Thanks mate. I wish it looked as good as it sounds, but thats o.k. For an experiment, she's good enough for me.
  20. O- and not that i'm a fender buff ( wezV , where are yoo?? ) but that aint no standard tele bridge . Those are stratocaster saddles in that upper pic.......
  21. Its not a problem with his neck placement. If it were a 21 fret neck, the new saddle location would be even further out of whack. A 24 fret neck might save the day, though. From what i'm reading, its a problem with adding the trem and roller bridge to that particular bridge plate, both made by ( well, sold by ) GFS.
  22. and there she is. I'd like to upgrade the pups and electronics in the future, but bass is only a part time hobby. Feel free to ask questions or criticize.
