  1. I just used some transtint amber and added a few drops of nutmeg to mine. I explained it in my topic about the Frankentele. Assumiong the color I got on my neck is what you are looking for? link to topic MK
  2. Glue it in the cavity, using a 30 minute epoxy. Tape the open part of the channel if it is not already taped up. Also WAX (Johnsons paste wax or something similar) the the nut, threads and the rod at the adjusting end so the epoxy will not stick if you get some on it. Try and bring the epoxy close to the adjustment end without getting it in the actual adjustment area. I use a small glue brush to apply the epoxy to the channel (a very thin layer) and then set the truss rod. The Truss rod should fit tight to begin with, before gluing. I hope this makes some since? Mike
  3. Steve who? I heard of him I think? Played some gig for the devil. What a Wuss. He lost a head cut to the Karate Kid LOL:))))) Peace Russ, I hope all works out for ya! Mike
  4. I can't say much since I didn't finish either. I hope to get the cutouts done soon Link to DC mk
  5. Personally I would save my dollars or look at Craigs list or some of the woodworking forums and buy a used Jet 6" or delta 6" for the same price as the HB. Just my .02cents mk But my whole issue was being able to do 6 1/2"-7" for body blanks. You can get some nice 6" jointers for reasonable prices, but the 8" get pricey. Jointing the edge for glue up is not a problem for the 6". Now if you are trying to joint and square one surface to the other. then yes if you want to do boards larger than 6" wide you will need to go to the 8" or larger. If you have one good surface, then a good table saw, setup properly will do the jointed edge, then a properly setup rip fence to parallel the other edge. Then using, a planer to resurface the opposite face for thickness and parallel. I don't really use a jointer much as I really have no need for one. I recently sold mine. Unless you are buying rough or undimensioned wood, there are otherways to accomplish the tasks. Just my .02cts mk

  7. Used the titebond and save staining your fingers. Also no need to use GG if maple will show more glue line with the GG. MK
  8. Thank you Geo, much appreciated! I personally like setnecks and 3x3 angled headstocks as well. MK
  9. LOL I understand. Take care Rich, If there is anything I can help you with just PM me. Mike
  10. The pics don't do it justice as the ambrosia stains have a nice liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight blue to gray color with some orangey to brown. Just remember it DOES have bug holes that must be filled. That's what caused the staining. LOL MK
  11. I have some friends that build dobros and they use it as well for sides and backs, also for square necks. That's why I was asking about Guitar tops? I've never seen it used. I'm sure I can get some oofcuts that will fill the bill and be VERY reasonable on cost. In fact I think that my figures for offcuts may be able to include shipping to most in the lower 48. depending on how much they want and it weighs. LOL I beleive I have many that are at least 7.5 inches and some up to 9 inches. also alot in the 4 to 6 inch range for sides. I'll seee how the offcuts work out then go from there. I can order more? they have approx 600bdft of this left and I can get it by next Thursday. if someone is really interested please PM me with specs and I might place an order for specifics which I think they will do? I will be looking for the most highly figured as well and some may be the amber color basewood. This project called for the blondewood maple variety. MIke
  12. I hope to start cutting next week so I'll post the offcuts in the classified section and see what happens. Unless I resaw them myself, the offcuts should run about $12.50 to $15.00 each plus shipping. MK Dangit! I'm looking out my window and I have frigging Bees again. I just got rid of a hive in the walls at the beginning of summer. CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. No Problem Jon all you have to do is bring some Que!!! BTW I missed getting a piece that was 16in wide was the amber ambrosia. Man was it nice! Had I got my butt up a little earlier this morning. LOL! MK
  14. Well Wez, something tells me that because of the bug infestation, those darn ambrosia buggers, they might frown on me for shipping it to you in the UK. So since it's no good I guess I'll burn it all in the fireplace MK
  15. Hi all, Wondering if anyone has ever used ambrosia maple for a top or whatever? I just picked up 100+ bdft and will have a lot of waste that will most likely be useable to someone. I should end up with some nice 2ft offcuts that can be resawn for tops. I have a staircase project to do. MK
  16. Thanks Erik, actually I have to give credit on the bodywood orientation to Derek from Big Dguitars as this is one of the closeouts he had that I got for a very very good price. LOL It had some defects that I had to contend with, but what the Hay, I knew that going in!! That's why it was cheap. The PUps are from Guitar fetish and are the Crunchy PAFS. There okay but, If I were keeping it for me then I would use something else. I like CLEAN!!! MIke Thanks Wez for the compliments. Thanks J and Cap as well. MK
  17. Thanks all for the compliments, I really appreciate them. Weston, I'm glad all is moving along for you. Don't be a stranger. Come by and see me sometime. Mike
  18. Thanks so much, Yes it was dyed. I think it turned out very nice. I mixed 1/8lb cut blonde shellac approx 3ozs, added about 15 drops Trans tint amber dye and 3 drops of nutmeg Behlens stain, Sprayed on about 2 to 3 light coats and then clear coated. I think the 3rd pic is close to straight on. I'll See if I can find some time to get a better shot but It will be going to it's new owner this weekend. I wonder what it is you ared seeing? The pic doesnt show how the blues and yellows in the green interact. Maybe that 's it? MK
  19. Well the Frankentele is done. I'm not extremely happy with the clear coat as I decided to try a polyacrylic. It shines but still has that Plastic look at certain angles. Other than that it came out okay. I know many of you don't like gold hardware, but it fits with this color scheme. Thanks for looking, Mike Larger Pic of back Larger Pic of front another Larger Pic of front
  20. LMII used to have plans for building that same exact jig out of wood. Grizzly didn't invent anything here, they just made a pro version of it. Here's my link to the one I made for a router table. will also do compound radius. Have not finished part two of the Cradle assembly but you can look at the prototype pics and see how it works and is made. Mike Link to Router Radius jig
  21. Picked up it today for $250 It is in extremely almost mint shape. mk
