  1. you know I've really started questioning that in the last few days. My intention for the body is to dye black like the orca build,I plan on sanding back a few times to better expose the grain. I think I need to get some software so I can create a few mock ups. I could dye the back of the neck black the sand that for the same effect then seal the whole thing I guess, what would best for a nice glossy finish? Shellac?
  2. So perhaps the tru-oil should be a no no, I guess I could use stain then a clear coat to seal. Can you use Miniwax on the fretboard?
  3. That's what I wasn't sure of,if I needed something else to seal it so it doesn't get all grubby and stain. But I guess that confirms it!
  4. As the title suggests ill be applyin the finish to a maple eden neck (maple neck, maple fret board) had a good look through the finshing forum here and Ive decided to go with tru-oil as I like the results,my question is what are my options for sealing after the tru-oil,I only have a few small off cuts for testing so I want to make sure what I do will work, just a general clear coat is all I want. Also I read its ok to just spray right over the frets and inlays and once its polished up it'll come off ok? Can someone clarify for me please,I had imagined taping them off originally. Thanks
  5. Looks great as always, I find your work very inspiring, infact I tried carving with chisels and hand planes after I saw one of your previous builds,it worked quite well for me but I've a long way to before mines is anywhere near that good. One question I have is how do you create the bowl for the controls? I've seen it on many guitars but never seen how its done.
  6. Forgive me if I'm missing something but, haven't you answered your own question? I mean if your familiar with the combo.
  7. Sadly I do not own a table saw, I wish I did! I've tried using the set up shown above in south pa's post and Ive pretty much got it a few small bits to tidy up,the problem was thay this piece was essentially a log so it was a question of trying to get a board from it.
  8. Haha no thats fine, just struggling with the tools I have at my disposal. I intended to buy better tools, just trying to work with what I have at the moment, just wondered if there was a way to make it easier, some kind of jig or template, I don't doubt that with decent tools I could do it.
  9. I'm trying to create a centre section for a 3 piece body, I've cut it from the sycamore log that I have, but fot the life of me I cannot get the edges right,I can't get 90 degree angles,I've planed it,I've used a surform,I've tried putting sandpaper on a flat surface and trying to square it off with that which created good flat edges but at slight angles which would obviously throw off the other sections when tryin to glue! Can anyone help because this is driving me crazy!
