  1. Yes and no! I got a friend with access to a cnc machine to make MDF templates of the jigsaw pieces and I used a router to cut around them. The material I used for the jigsaw is 4mm thick and bent nicely over the arm contour without having to stem bend the pieces. I used a vacuum press to stick it all onto the body.
  2. Hi everyone, I'm new here. Here is a link to some of previous work: http://s1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb425/dolmencustom/ and here is a link to the build I am currently working on: http://s1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb425/dolmencustom/Ibanez%20puzzle%20top/ The puzzle top specs are as follows: Walnut body with puzzle overlay of walnut and maple Maple neck with walnut and maple veneers Maple fretboard with black position dots Black bound fretboard and headstock, body will be bound aswell Set neck Hardware will be as follows: DiMarzio Dactivators in bridge and neck positions Black chrome Schaller licensed Floyd Rose low profile tremolo Black chrome Schaller tuners 5 way pickup selector switch 1 volume and 1 tone I will put more pics up as the job progresses. Can some explain to me how to put pics directly on the posts when I make them?? Sláinte
  3. Prostheta, the back and neck on the six string bass is mostly bubinga with some birds eye maple and a few veneers of maple and ebony thrown in for good measure (you can't have enough speed stripes on a guitar!!). The neck has thirteen pieces (not including the fretboard)and the body has a bubinga back, burl poplar top and a few veneers in between to accent the join between them. Thanks for the compliments, unfortunately most people who see my work here think if it doesn't have a well known name on it, it's a piece of crap. The six string bass is my gigging bass, fantastic sound, action etc, but it's a ton weight. I would use less dense woods if I were to build something like it again. I am currently building an Ibanez Jem copy, maple and walnut laminated neck with a maple fretboard. Walnut body with a jigsaw puzzle of walnut and maple on the top. Neck, headstock and body will have black binding. I will take a few pics tomorrow and put a link to them. Thanks to Menapia I know how to do it now. It's great to talk with people who share the same interest in guitar building. I look forward to sharing my journey with you. Sláinte.
  4. Hope this works. This is a pic or two of my last project, a 5 string bass. I will take more pics later of other instruments I have built and will post them. http://s1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb425/dolmencustom/ Enjoy!!
  5. Hi guys, thanks for the warm welcome! I will post some pics if someone tells me how to go about it. Do I just copy and paste or is there some other way??? Glad to see there is another Irish person onboard too.
  6. Hi guys, I just registered on the forum. I have been building solid body guitars and basses for the last 7 years (not full time, I have a day job) and have over 30 builds, and a lot of repairs and modifications under my belt. I am looking forward to participating, and hope I will learn a lot from you guys, and maybe I can help out some aswell. Sláinte.
