  1. I almost cut my left thumb in half with my 4tpi bandsaw blade. I got lazy and did not pay attention and slid it right in as I was resawing a board. Yah, I book matched my thumb! It chipped the bone and left a huge gash. I waited about 4 hours to go to the doctor. They wanted to stitch it back together. I opted for glue. the last thing I wanted after that long was to have a needle going into it. It took about a month to heal and looks gnarly but it got better.
  2. Anyone check out his website? http://www.divebombinc.com/ On the front he has a picture of a Music Man he is calling the Venna That's a copyright infringement..... I sent an E-mail to Ernie Ball with the link. He is also selling a guitar called an LP Custom that looks just like an LP Custom http://divebombinc.com/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=74 I sent an email to Gibson (they love cease and desist letters) This star...another copyright infringement http://divebombinc.com/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=89 So, I'm guessing that this "Fender SRV" is not too far away from being sold to an unsuspecting buyer who might not know the difference. You can never really know someones intent but clearly, this poster has listed some very questionable items for sale on his website. yes, no actual logos listed but clearly he is not interested in originality. Oh, and yes, I already sent an email to Fender. I'm sure he can expect a few C&D letters in the mail. Edit: yah, and he has the SRV bodies for sale on his site too http://divebombinc.com/product_info.php?products_id=88
  3. I really like it but make sure you deliver it with a warning about lead paint exposure. Hope you didn't breathe much of the paint dust in while you worked in it.
  4. You could always take it and have it dried. Would likely take a week to get done. Look up a local lumber yard that has a kiln. For as small as that stuff is, wouldn't cost you much either. You haven't even made one cut yet and it sounds like you are compromising. That's the difference between a good builder and a great builder. Great ones don't compromise their vision.
  5. <spoiler> The next personal guitar in the 80s metal series I build will be Neon Green But you have to wait till next year to see what it will be... </spoiler>
  6. BC Rich did the same thing with their Platinum series guitars. It was brownish and godawful to get off. I actually never got it off. I go tired of sanding and just painted over the stuff.
  7. You can inlay anything if you have the skill as for designing and building your own trem. Check out this site and judge for yourself what goes into that process to make a unique design that works http://guitarworks.thestrandbergs.com/
  8. just a question: if you spalted the front and back, why use a piece of black limba? Seems like a waste for what little of if you'll see on the side grain? Oh, and that top is just SICK!
  9. +1 Danelectro did this on a lot of their guitars and it worked out nice. Slightly countersink the screws and run them through the back of the guitar. You're going to find that magnets holding the pickups in will be about as affective as building a neck without a truss rod!

  15. Pretty cool..I started on a Limba body with Padauk Stringers right before shutting my shop down. Still got the body and no tools to do anything with it!
  16. I've been reading your blog for a long while now and this bridge is awesome. The only drawback is that it won't drop into a Floyd route. To get the clearance for the fine tuners you have to route part of your body away. This bridge will be a good one for a custom build but for a mod...I'd be hard pressed to start routing wood on a concept bridge.
  17. I have both the Zakk Wah and the Dimebag Wah. I use the dimebag because you can pick the sweep range you want. Like it a bit nasel. pick it. Like it to have more low end, pick it. The boost is nice too. The zakk Wah seems to lack omph
  18. Well, my last build went south so I'm left with just about everything you need to put together a seven string guitar. All parts are absolutely new and have never been mounted on a guitar. Sorry, I'll only sell as a kit I will not part out. Paypal only. PM me if you are interested.
  19. Ottovola: Interesting modification of an RG. I like the lady in the flame idea but doing it on the pickup was bit much. Oddly, it might have looked better had you done it on the sides of the pickup. Then it would have made everything look like one piece. Nice paint job but not a custom build! andyt: I absolutely love the finish and the clear looks...well, clear! I also liked that you used recycled parts from Ibanez. I don't know if I would play it but it is a cool build! Lil Petrucci: It took you a year to build the guitar and the first post on this forum is in the GOTM. From what can see in the pictures it looks okay. I like the mirrored pickguard but without better pictures it's hard to make out the quality of the build. swedishLuthier: Another strong build from you. I've never been sold on the earvanna nuts but the color of this build and the high polished chrome give this build a look all it's own. I also love the tremolo and those TV jones style pickups look killer! You might end up a multiple time GOTM winner with this one! low end fuzz: wow! That's a whole lot of different tone textures on one guitar. When it comes to using multiple wood choices on a guitar check out some vintage BCR stuff. This is a bit crazy and I really don't understand the pickup mounting rings over the pickguard. The wooden tail piece...also a little off to me. The basic spalted body wood would have been enough to really make this a killer guitar but with all the other crazy woods on it you just pulled away from the look. Not to be offensive but this looked like an exercise in how to get rid of scrap wood. kpcrash: I love black limba and right now I'm finishing up a 7 string Les Paul Jr style build with black limba. Your paul really looks aged but the neck looks really clean. With the age of that body I'd expect some wear on that fretboard and some yellowing of that inlay. It might just be the pictures but the neck almost seems like a replacement neck. However, it looks like a strong build! rdiquattro: This build looks like it would be an awesome fat body jazz box but the pictures are very blurry and had to make out the fine details. It's a shame really because this looks like it would have gotten my vote if I could have seen better pictures of it. hydrogeoman: If this was a double humbucker I would have sent you a PM trying to buy it! Awesome looking and well executed tele. I love the wood choices and that you kept it simple. You should be proud of this build. Kenny: I love the wood choices and the lack of inlay on the neck. A personal choice for me on all my own builds. This looks like it would be a solid player and it was a bold choice to go with natural maple with no stain! The edges are a bit soft for my personal tastes but non the less, a top contender for sure! Boggs: That's a cool story, sucks he couldn't buy it since he liked it so much. The shape is subjective but you know that already. It's sort of the anti-pointy guitar which I'm sure gains the same respect as the pointy guitars do. Looks like another solid build for you. jer7740: Nice execution on this build. I love the inlays and the maple board. They make the build interesting. I'm not a fan of the wooden rings. They stand out against the finish too much. Also, the knobs and switches don't fill out the indents which makes them look too small. It also seems like there is still a good bit of orange peel to tend to. I'm dropping my vote on hydro's telecaster!
  20. Yah, it's the last one I completed. It was a build for myself and has been real fun playing. I might post in GOTM with it just for kicks. As for the build...I really like the shape of the tele. Looks nice in paint!
  21. I have a solid maple guitar with a bolt on maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. Nothing shrill about it in-fact it even has an active pickup and it still has more bass response than treble. Dunno, it is BE maple which tends to be a bit softer than rock maple but I've seen alot of maple bodies that aren't too shrill.
