I ended up using some slickJR p90's.  

The guitar sounds great.  A combination of walnut body and neck with the p90's has some serious punch.  

This is my first hand rubbed oil finish and I really love the feel of it.

Finally got this one finished.  Here are a few pics of the finished product.  It sounds killer!

Starting assembly. 

Shielding the cavities.

Not sure how many coats. I lost count. 

Clear on and last costs of hand rubbed oil on.....  Now to just be patient for a few weeks before wetsanding and polishing. 

Logo on.  Time to start clearing.

Gold paint going on.  I decided to go matching headstock. 

I finished up the paint, then scraped the bindings.  

There are a couple light coats of clear on the gold.  I plan to retape and start clearing the top next. 

I also test fit the decal......lookin' good!

I got around to fretting the neck.  I also put several coats of danish oil on the body back, sides and neck.  I do t have a pic but I got the pickguard cut, beveled, and ready.  

Next step is gold top paint for the body. 

First coat of danish oil for the back, sides & neck. 

Time for some grain filler....

Starting to look like a guitar.

neck bolted, bridge set, furruls set, toggle installed.

here are pics with a paper template for the pickguard. 

I got the binding routed and installed.

No I don't have the p90's yet. What pickups did you get in my area?

It's been awhile since I've updated this thread. 

I actually made a little progress this afternoon.  I got the neck pocket routed. Binding is next. 

Routing pickup and control cavities.  Slowly making progress. 

I always liked the skunk stripe on the back of fender necks.  Purely cosmetic. 

A little neck shaping taking place. It's been sitting dormant for a bit, it's time to make some progress!  

Fret markers installed....Paduak dots to match skunkstripe. 

Got the fretboard glued on and trimmed up. 

Truss rod routed....

I took an image off the internet and crudely photoshopped what I'm gonna do.  

Just to be clear, I don't plan to cover up all the walnut on the guitar. It will be a gold top with cream binding on the front.......but The back will be clear over the walnut. 

I'm starting up a solid walnut Telecaster Deluxe build.

The body is English walnut sides with Black American walnut center stripe.  The top will be a goldtop with black pickguard and hardware. P-90 pickups with deluxe style controls. 

The neck will be Black American Walnut with a Rosewood board. 

Currently I have the body wood milled down, glued up, and rough cut to shape. The routed to shape.

Got the neck milled down and roof cut. Then routed to shape and installed a Paduak skunk stripe.   

I will be updating this thread throughout the entire build.....
