Yeah, so the throat of this thing was not deep enough. Working on Version 3.0 atm. Updates pending. I did pick up a nice 3/4 horse Porter Cable Router motor to be used as my dedicated table router for 75 bucks today at the Rockler Outlet. Pretty happy with that.

Try paste wax on the runners. This will help you get a tighter fit and still be able to slide smoothly.

Pros, good call on the second mount. I have added that and started work on my adjustable fence v1.0 tonight. Not much time to work on this as I spent most of my day brewing a California Common style lager. I am hoping I will have a little time tomorrow to fine tune the fence design. As of right now I have the ability to expose about .02 inches of a 1/4" straight bit for testing purposes. I need to reduce the height and depth of the fence as well as reduce the length of the extension arms but test cuts have come out great so far.

Wow. . .I have really let this project sit idle for a while. I hate to use the excuse but life has gotten in the way once again. Summer has been booked up pretty solid for me and I have been just trying to keep up. I have promised myself that I would get going on this again soon. No progress to show yet but the friend I am building it for decided a few months ago he would like binding on the body. Since I had already carved it and I have no overhead router or other fancy solution I sat on it for a while. Yesterday I had some time to kill since so I started on a proof of concept for a router jig inspired by something I saw created by Setch. I rebuilt the whole thing today using what I had learned in my POC and am nearly complete. I need to finish the adjustable fence and run a few test cuts with it but if all goes well I should have my binding channels cut in within a couple days.

Looks very similar to my first bass. The paint on the neck cracked when making a severe adjustment to the truss rod.

If there is not too much glue filling the slot under the nut maybe try tapping it towards the back of the neck to free it up rather than the normal side tap?

Simo's spalt top was the one that grabbed me. I would kill (well maybe just maim) someone to get a piece of spalted maple that looked like that.

No need to get excited about it. I was told this almost 20 years ago. I never bothered to look into the providence (my fault). I was merely stating what information I had about the guitar.

I will have to read through that a bit more thoroughly when I have time. I do not have a serial number on this guitar and cannot recall if it had one when it came into my possession in roughly 1989ish it was beat up badly and wouldnt stay in tune. The headstock does have the N.J. Series logo. I looked it over and saw the neck bolts had been replaced with giant wood screws and the neck had a lot of movement to it. I could probably have done a lot of things better now that I look back but it was my first foray into working on a guitar. Perhaps someday I will revisit it. She really does play nice now though.

That Mockingbird looks almost identical to my first rehab project. I was told this was a 1984 American made model. It was white and in almost as rough of shape as the one you have posted. After 18 years sitting in pieces in a box I turned it into this: The photo sucks but you get the idea.

Oak would certainly work for the neck, just keep in mind that it might be a bit heavy.

order a pattern following bit from stew mac. those things are sharp enough to cut frets out of the package guaranteed.

the research i have done shows that a water based clear coat will not discolor or amber your finished product where an oil based clear coat will. If anyone has anything better to offer, please let me know.
