very nice what string set are you using I am also building A smaller guitar my body is 10" long though so it will even be smaller

update just need a volume pot and to put the tuning machines on properly then she is all done

yes youtube is a wonderful place to learn things im actually making my first guitar as well a little unconventional but my next one I will carve out myself I also wish I started earlier

no you are right it is very tiny but this is the first time I've done this and I dont have a large printer otherwise I would have printed it bigger I also have roughly 24hrs of print time invested into this guitar including screw ups and re prints so it does take quite a while I also figured it as more of a travel size anyway

for those in doubt here is the strength of press fit I made a video showing yes I will still be securing the parts even more in some fasion have yet to decide currently the only things holding that piece to the neck are 2 screws and press fit pegs

that was the origanal size I wanted to print it I took that measurement off my dads 1972 yamaha hallowbody then measured my fender and warlock and realized I could chop 9/16ths off saving time and plastic here is that piece fixed next to my scooter battery for size comparison

need to drill the holes for the bridge but here it is today

thats one thing Im worried about but im gonna jb weld it together just to be on the safe side

thats a good point both of you thank you for your responses I went ahead and cut out a little bit in the design for the wood hopefully its an improvement from the other way

update looking almost done just need to adjust some things

so I have a wierd question the other day I was looking at my design and though how much easier it would be to mount a pickup if I glued a thin peice of wood in the pickup housing. now here is my question how do you think combining 2 materials like plastic and wood would affect resonance?

update still need to print the bridge, pickup housing and reprint one left side piece then jb weld it all together and it should be good to go

those woods are very nice looks like itll be a badass guitar

oh I will I have been wanting to finish this project for a long time this is actually one of the youtube videos that got me inspired to do it myself

origanaly that was another issue but upon messing with press fit tolerances I dont think it will the neck plate is going to be held together with 2 press fit pegs and 2 bolts so it should be ok I apprecieate the info on the pots ive been looking everywhere for that

Hey guys Im new to the forum new to custom building but have been repairing guitars for a few years now. I love 3d printing technology, and when I got mine one of the projects ive been wanting to do when I got good enough was 3d print a custom guitar.Now really the only 2 things I worry about when doing this are the resonance of the pickup, and the fact that the body being abs plastiic the neck will weigh a lot more. as far as the reonance goes I made an 1/8" wall around the pickup completely so hopefully it wont be to big of a deal. As for the width of the body the first peice I printed took about 2 and a half hours for one of the side peices because I got the measurements off of my dads 72 yamaha hallowbody, I had my best friend measure his fender for me and realived that I could knock 9/16's off the entire body withough sacraficing strength lowering print time and saving plastic for future projects. well enough rambling on to the pics I am currently not done I need to reprint one peice and print the pickup housing and bridge, but here is what I have so far. first try on the design I messed up a little the theme Im going for is spider webs. here is the fixed design yes I do print the guitar in peices do to the print bed only being able to print up to 6"cubed everything will be pressfited and jv welded together for extra strength here is the bridged file sliced I am using a gibson sg neck from what my friend told me when he gave it to me and i have the option of using a 1976 kramer pickup or a 2004 peavey pick up here are some of the printed peices fitted together and here is were im at now Yes I realize its going to be a small guitar in the end itll be 10" long and 10" wide, simaler to a travel guitar but you also have to remember this is my first wack at it I've never done anything like this and if it works which it should then I will make a bigger body. One question I have is what value potentiometer can I use for a volume knob? another question I can use a screw as a ground correct and just wire everything in series?
