  1. The last one on the list, the "Malmsteen," totally wins my vote. I love simplicity and all things that go with it. One HB + 1 Vol = awesome. I currently have a strat with 2 single coils in series and a volume. I love it. My vote winner right there.
  2. Not always true, LK...granted, in most cases, yes, but still... I tend to get bored often, and when I take the strings off my strat to clean and polish the fretboard, I always find myself taking off the pickgaurd and playing around. Turns out better everytime. [/threadjack] As for the question, there are tons of different things you could do, but nothing substansial. Re-wiring, modifying, or just playing around with guitar electronics requires a rather large amount of different pieces and parts. You could make some strange volume/tone control, but that's about it. Nothing that would do much to anything. For example, on one of my strats, I wired the volume knob backwards 'cause I felt like it. Now, when I turn it "up," I get less sound, and vice versa. If you're 100% bent on playing around with your guitar, be careful. I'd say start by just opening her up, then drawing everything out and making sure you can put it back EXACTLY like that in case you screw something up. Also, don't do anything without researching it. Most of all, let us know if/what you do. We will most likely be able to give you some hints towards either a better or just plain different way of doing the same thing, or a way to add on to whatever it is you've created. Be patient, and don't do anything without knowing what it's going to do before-hand.
  3. Very nice. I'll go with you and against in the owner in saying, yes, I'd like to see far more carving done to it. I hate blocky and chunky basses. On a guitar, it's okay. Things like the Les Paul and any flat-top jazz box have already laid the standard for boxy axes. However, on a bass, everything should be very slick, smooth, ergonomic, and just plain pretty. I guess I like my women curvy rather than chunky...
  4. Legalize it, then have the government tax the living bejezzus out of it. Charge twice as much as you would for cigarettes, and it'd still sell. Put the same type of vehicular laws around it as alcohol to restrict anything dangerous. Honestly, though, if the American government system were to legalize marijuana, not only would they then make a boatload off of its sales, but that would also do quite a good amount elsewhere in the world. Cartels would spring up out of nowhere at first, but then settle into a general regime where things were monitored and supported by governments, instead of being at war all the time. The supply would be much less dangerous, as the FDA could put restrictions all over it, so you'd pay for your weed the same as cigars. You pay more, you'll end up with a better quality smoke, you pay less, you get the stuff that comes in a plastic wrapper, etc. That would then open up ease of use for medicinal purposes as well. And just so you all know, I am not a smoker of the happy grass. I'm actually against it personally. I really prefer to avoid it at all costs. It just makes far too much sense to have it sit and go to waste while people kill each other over maintaining it.
  5. I think what this forums needs more than people attacking the mod crew or regulars, is a dose of real-world forums. In all reality, though this is a wonderful forum that does tons for a whole load of people, there are other forums out there that are enormous and have an incredible size when it comes to members. One of the online games I play, Kingdom of Loathing, is an example of a forum that is mighty. It's relatively small, but the moderating staff has their work cut out for them. Flaming is not only allowed, but typically praised and laughed at. Post Count ++ is not a bad thing. The forumers have a section just for flaming (The Ring of Flame), and drag everything from there around the rest of the forum. If you think people here are being mean to you, try going there, not searching, posting a topic with impropar grammar/spelling, and actually expecting an answer. More than likely, your thread will be locked after 10-15 posts ridiculing you and your mother. I hate to say it, but the way this forum is set up is amazing candy-coated and family friendly when it compares to the rest of the internet. If you feel offended here, you should probably just unplug your computer from the internet and learn how to play RPG's from now on... It's not that this is a bad thing, though. I love this forum, and have been here for quite some time now. Though I had a brief period of inactivity, I was still here, lurking, reading, and viewing. The people here are very nice, don't flame, and the mod crew runs very easy on newbs and n00bs alike. The lack of the search button is a thing that very few know an answer to if anyone. That runs along the same lines as the "edit" button. You don't need another post. Especially if it's within 5-10 minutes of when you originally posted something, and isn't some sort of ground-breaking idea that you HAVE to get out RIGHT AWAY in order to tell the whole world, AND you don't want to lose or add to what you originally wrote. I swear, after spending some time elsewhere on the almight intarweb, I know of the hardships forumers see everyday. I could run right along the rest of the best and a make a "how-to forum" video or guide, but all that work would go to waste because n00bs don't care, and newbs wouldn't get caught doing something stupid. All in all, though there is this "perfect" forum we all want, we aren't going to get it. There will always be someone here to make us not like them. There will always be spelling mistakes, flames, people asking if they can take down their door and build a guitar out of it, etc. It should be understood and accepted as part of the foruming world, and handled accordingly from case to case. It's not up to me to determine how exactly to handle this, though. That's the moderating staff. Lock more threads? Delete more posts? Stop caring and let it all circle the drain? Not my call, nor my place to make suggestions to them on how to run their forum. As a forumer, however, I will say relax, it could be (and is elswhere) much worse, and just go build a guitar. Above all else, DON'T PANIC.
  6. My wireless internet is running about 3 Mbps, but my hardlined runs around 8-10. Also, as to that debate about fiber/T1/T3 being too expensive for home use, that's not always the case. My father is a teacher at a high school about 6 miles away from our house, and they are willing to pay for the installation of their T1 cabling to our house as long as we paid a monthly fee for it. I honestly don't remember what it was price-wise, but I do remember it being comparable to our current (blazingly-fast) cable connection or a bit higher.
  7. I don't know if anyone realized it, but this thread hit its one-year-birthday on page 48...wow... Old thread that is always new and alive. I'll eventually sift through all this to figure out what you actually were working on, as I was afraid to until you posted some results in announcements.
  8. Here's what I've done to play around with this, and it usually helped out. Use no leads except for things coming directly from the jack. Solder another wire onto your hot output on the jack and run that to the VU's input, then solder another wire to the ground on the jack and run that to the ground on the VU. This is just a cleaner way of wiring it, instead of pulling everything off the pots and whatnot. I prefered it more, it's easier to look at and visualize in the schematics. I don't know if it will solve your problem, but it might make troubleshooting easier. EDIT - also, if we could see pics of what you've done and how you mounted it, that would rock. Mine were run into a booster pedal. One for the in, one for the out, so I could see (sort of) the amount of "boost" I was getting out of it as opposed to just hearing it. Plus it looks cool.
  9. To get the flashing effect, he used a simple LM3915 VU Meter setup. See this thread: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...400&hl=vu+meter There's a little bit in there, but most importantly the schematics for what you're looking for.
  10. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...l=led+fretboard There's quite a ton of info in that thread, I'm sure you'll find the answer to your question as well as questions you didn't even know you had in there.
  11. Imageshack automatically makes thumbnail links for you. I use it religiously on every forum I frequent. http://www.imageshack.us/ It gives you two different sites per picture (to spread bandwidth, one for hotlinking the other for linking to), as well as thumbnails. Typically, when it comes to thumbnails, I'll post the same amount as would take up the space of a 640x480 pic, or MAX of six thumbnails. People can still see the general gist of what I'm trying to get across, and they can get a good look at something.
  12. Radio Shack sells 1, 2, and 5 lbs. rolls of #43 magnet wire. I don't remember the prices, but I do remember seeing it there.
  13. I don't care what that thing is or was or could be made out of. Wow...beautiful work. I would play it.
  14. I've been in the process of hunting down a couple of amp projects to play around with. Mostly this one, but there have been a couple others that just didn't turn out well. Anywho, I've been googling for quite a bit now looking for a 40W+40W stereo amp (40 watts per channel) DIY project. At the risk of being burned, I will say this is not for a guitar setup or anything, just knowing the vast electronics knowledge that is on this board, I might have some luck finding someone that knows a bit about where to find something like this. What I'm looking for is a car amp to build. I don't need an EQ or barely even a pre-amp stage, rather just the power amp by itself. Dual, clean channel power amp. My plan is to build two of them, one for the front speakers, one for the rear, and then just run my iPod directly into it. That means 12V input instead of 120V, and something that can be made relatively small. Not tiny or microboard or something along those lines, just, well...smaller than a normal amp. I figure it would be fine to ask around here as it is still an amp project, though not a guitar amp project. If anyone has a source they could link me to, or a nudge (or shove) in the right direction to find out, I would be ever so grateful. Thanks in advance!
  15. toddler, wow. i watched your topic religiously throughout the creation of that thing. i love it, all the way through. brilliant electronics, gorgeous look, ingenious and creative design. mad props, sir, that is one incredible axe.
