  1. Hey guys, I didn't actually realise this thread was still alive. My bad. I have two tops that are roughly 500mm long x200mm wide x 14mm thick all with great figure. And two small tops 500mm long x200mm wide x 4mm thick. These need to go, so Im happy to do the lot for $400. Dean
  2. Hey guys, I have some highly figured Australian blackwood for sale. $100-140 (depending on size/figure) + postage per set. I live in Australia, and would prefer to keep all sales local. Click click click PM me for more pictures, prices and measurements. Cheers, Deano
  3. Hey guys, Finally finished this build and it came up a treat. Specs: - 25 inch scale - Solid one piece Queensland Maple body, - Queensland Maple neck, - Gidgee fretboard, - Black wood headstock veneer - Custom Australian made MikeB pickups, - Total clear Nitro finish, Compliments to Stu a.k.a Aussie tradie Thanks guys. Deano Headstock Full body The back Cheers. Deano
  4. Hey guys, Finally started painting. Oz tradie has helped out a **** load, teachin' me all the tricks of the trade. So we have applied 3 coats of blond shellac as an under coat, then grain filled it with Timber mate. We then sanded it back and applied the first few coats of Nitro, followed by another sanding back, and then more Nitro. Its coming up great, and seems to be very even. Full body A few days to cure, and a few coats of Nitro later: Click Another few. Click Back of the Headstock blocked back. Click Body sanded Click Decal: I decided to choose the Gold/black one. It should look shweet with Gold hard ware. Click Nearly there: Click Done The decal is .4mm thick, so the Nitro should make it look 3D. It should raise a tad out of the paint. Click Cheers dudes, Deano
  5. Slowly finishing. I ended up re fretting the whole thing. This guitar has been a tricky build, and to me there is alot of improvement needed ( I am a real perfectionist!) Tomorrow I will route out the bridge pickup cavity, and on Sunday I will drill holes for the bridge and the ferrules. Hopefully a first coat of Nitro this week!. Sanded with 1200 gritt... Full Body shot. Full body again Tasty neck Neck shot two. First pickup Cheers guys.
  6. Yep, its all at Mathews, and it is not always their. Personally I don't think ill find any more fiddle back like that! Anyways, I finished the neck pocket a second ago, here are some pictures... Click Click How snug must the neck fit in the pocket?. A little bit of movement?. Or none at all.. Because mine is a tight squeeze.. Deano
  7. Cool guys, Ill get some timber tomorrow and get on to it!. Should I do the same with long length's (2-4m) or is that unnecessary?. Thanks again. Deano
  8. Hey, Thanks for the help. What do you mean by 'stickering' Cheers, Deano
  9. Hey guys, Got a few caps, bodies and necks hanging around.. At the moment everything is stored on top of each other. Is there a better way to do this to reduce the timber warping?. Or is their no real way?. Already i have seen a bit of warp in one of my caps.. Sorry if this is in the wrong section. Deano
  10. Hey Guys, I have nearly finished my neck. An I'm not really happy with the final result. The binding is great, but I don't like the fretwork. I have tried to make the fret join invisible by hiding the tang behind the binding, but in a few places it seems to be popping up. I didn't use glue, because I thought if I stuff it up, it would be easier to pull out and start again. I have realised now that is not the case.. Any suggestions on how I can solve the raising of the frets?. Should have I used glue?. Any ways, here are some pics!. No frets Also, I went down to my local timber yard to have a look around. (No buying intended) And I came home with this: Click here. 4.4 meters of fiddle back Blackwood and 2.8 meters of AWESOME Birdseye.... Cheers Guys.. Deano
  11. Here are some new pics. Used a angle grinder and sanding disk to do this!. A lot more work to go but mostly hand sanding etc. Grinding away.... Carved top 1 carved top 2
  12. Perry, Your inlay work is amazing!!. Keep it up!! Deano
  13. Before I start showing of, I must say thanks to Stu "oz tradie" who has really helped out alot. Top bloke! Some new pics. one layer at time... First layer CLICK Another close up. CLICK
  14. Hey, Yeah i will remove the sap wood. I did like it at first but it stuffs up the fretboard binding, being white. thanks for the reply.
  15. Hey guys, I'm on the site every night, but dont really do much posting.. so here i go. I'm a regular member on AGGH, so the pics ive posted there are the same as here. I started on a new build part of VCE, the subject is for D&T (Design and Technology). I'm required to accommodate the needs of a client. This design is similar to a PRS, Belman but with a few tweaks here and there. I'm focusing on an Australian theme, part of my folios requirements. Using only Australian materials etc. Now for some Specs: SPECS: - Arch top - 25 inch scale - One piece figured Queensland maple body - Queensland maple Set neck - 1st Grade Gidgee fretboard - Hand wound pups. - Figured blackwood head stock veneer - Plain clear Nitro finish, possibly with a yellowy tint. (but not much) Drawings and progress Frettboard and drawings Timber and drawings Headstock Mother of pearl and design. OK. Thats enough drawings, they are all full scale and it took ages to do. But is the smartest thing I've done, Its made the job that much easier. I'm not doing the inlay anymore, its so lame.. what do you guys think?. It seems almost stupid/ pointless. just a design idea though. PROGRESS: Jigs Maple slab Jig, Slab and fretboard Fretboard binding The neck should be finished soon enough. And i will post more pictures soon. criticism gladly accepted. Thanks for your time. Dean
