How To Make a Fret Bevel Tool

by Brian Calvert

Start by first cutting the end off of a double sided flat file that is the length of the tool you want to make (mine is 7 inches long).

Now cut a piece of 2x4 that is at least 1 inch longer then your file

Set your table saw up for a 35 degree cut

and cut your 2x4 standing up lengthwise

Now run a 90 degree cut down the length at the bevel at least 1/3 to 1/2 of the width of your file

Tap your file into the slot you just cut, it should fit snug since your slot is a little thinner then the width of the average file

Grab any material (cloth, suede, even an old t shirt) and cut a couple of pieces to cover the running side of your tool, then glue them on with any wood or craft glue.

Trim and staple the back and ends and your ready to go!
