Johnson
On my neck thru project, I was thinking about mahogany wings, and a maple/mahogany/maple neck, with a rosewood or ebony fingerboard. With 2 humbuckers, has anybody ever had a setup like that?? And if so, did it sound good? Thanks..
skibum5545
I see no walnut... Apparently walnut sounds good with maple neckthru and ebony fingerboard. What the walnut lacks in highs the maple/ebony makes up for. I've never liked the look of walnut and mahogany, and their tones are somewhat similar. Skip the mahog IMO and go for maple or maple/walnut/maple neck. Tried and true! Ask primal how the maple/walnut turned out for him on his neckthru bass; he might have some insight as well. On my maple/ebony/walnut bass (albeit bolt-on) I got really good results. It is a little lacking in the highs, but a neckthru will make up for that. Johnson
I'm doing a solid color body, so I won't be seeing the body. Maybe I'll just kick out the Walnut, since I'm only using it for one strip....
Johnson
OH CRAP, I just caught it. I was thinking of doing a maple/walnut/maple neck, dangit. what would that sound like??? I'm toying around with the idea of just adding a plain maple top, or would that be too bright? I'm going for a 70's rock and roll guitar here..
