rat420 Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 Hey i was wondering how easy it is to shape alder. Im looking to make a Rudy Sarzo Washburn replica and wanted it to be made out of alder but was wondering if it would be easy to shape. Please help if you can Quote
westhemann Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 alder is pretty easy to shape....one of the easier woods to work with....keep your router bits sharp to prevent tearout and you will be fine Quote
Scott Rosenberger Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 Yeah Alder is a prefered wood among carvers. Very similar to basswood for carving purposes. Alder tends to have hidden Pin Knots sometimes, so like Wes Said, Make sure your tools are sharp Quote
Nicksguitar Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 I hadn't ever wood carved before and working with Alder was a dream. Easy stuff. I'm working on a maple top now and I miss the Alder! Quote
