Tut Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 I have a Mexican made Telecaster that works perfectly except that there is a slight "clicking" or "ticking" sound when my finger touches the pick guard as I strum. I am in the early stages of performing electrical repairs on my guitars, so I thought I'd through this at the forum before I opened up the guitar. Does this sound like the ground is disconnected? Am I best just to take it to a pro? Thanks for your assistance. Quote
lovekraft Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 Specifically, what are you touching that makes the click? Quote
Tut Posted August 12, 2004 Author Report Posted August 12, 2004 The clicking comes when my finger touches the plastic pickguard...if I simply run my finger along the pickguard I can hear the clicking...it doesn't matter what amp, cable or power outlet I use, i still get the same effect...I hope that helps. Thanks. Quote
lovekraft Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 I'm completely baffled, sorry! Unless it's static electricity, I have no idea what touching the plastic could possibly do. Quote
truerussian558 Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 is it a shielded pickguard? check for loose ground wires that might (doubtfully), touch the shielding and add a little clicking sound. otherwise its nothing to do with the pickguard, since plastic does not conduct electricity, it must be something else, have you checked under the hood Quote
Tut Posted August 16, 2004 Author Report Posted August 16, 2004 I looked under the hood and I can't see an loose wires, and all the soldering seems to be secure...I'm not making this up. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does I can lay the guitar on my lap, not touch with anything other than my finger, on the pickguard, and make it crackle...maybe I should name the guitar "Casper" for the ghost in the machine. Thanks, everyone, for giving it some thought. Quote
