Zakk
1. Randy Rhoads - It´s thanks to him I started playing. 2. Zakk Wylde - One of the coolest guys on earth and the best guitarplayer alive. 3. Steve Morse - Together with Zakk Wylde the best picker in the world?! These three are unbeatable if you ask me. SprocketBoy
Now this is a hard vote to put just "one" guitarist at the top. For me my fav. guitarist is John Petrucci, Steve Vai,Joe Satriani,Eric Johnson,Greg Howe,Tony Mcalpine,Eddie VanHalen,Chris Degarmo,Yngwie Malmsteen,Marty Friedman, Alex Lifeson, SRV,Chris Isaak, Gary Hoey,Phil Keaggy, Lincoln Brewster,Bob Hartman....I could go on and on The thing is i cant just say "the best guitarist is.." Because to me, all these guys are #1 . most might sound simular to another yet each one has that uniqness about there playing and sound that will inspire me I love everything about the guitar and all those who have made it soooo exciting and inspiring for the rest of us. lol Everyones a winner !!!!!!!! westhemann
i saw eric johnson play at the save our springs benefit here in austin a few years back.the guy is amazing.super smooth picking tecqnique.i think his sound may be a little sterile though,it tends to mask how bluesy he is. Sacred
I picked up a CD of Eric Johnson a couple years ago, that guy is great, I love his style very different and unique.

JTisMe
Eddie's influence on every rock guitarist the following two decades put him in a class by himself IMHO. But if you want to hear how the guitar can be used in unique and interesting ways guys like Fripp, Holdworth and David Torn are worth an evening or twos. -jeff
monkey69962000
for me it depends on the style of music the person plays. Blues is BB king. Acoustic i say jack johnson. Rock, well rock has changed from the 80's to the 90's. There are so many great rockers. You have Vai, Clapton, Page, Halen, Wyld, and tons more. Well jimi i find as an influencial guitarest, but not one of the best. Dont have a fav of rockers because there are so many great. for jazz its probably chuck berry. Well if you consider him jazz. Its like jazz rock. Man i cant believe jimi could mess up a song until i herd him do his version of johnny be good. Chuck is way better at the song then jimi. wing
Brian Robertson from Thin Lizzy, hes definitely underated. You have got to listen to Thin Lizzy Live and dangerous! He influenced me to buy a crybaby pedal. Other favourites probably either Randy Rhodes Slash The Dio guitarist that plays mystery (dave campbell i think) Eric Clapton (why is he not on the list!) Malmsteen, he isnt all about shred just because he plays fast, he can do some rock and roll type stuff too. Listen to teaser, that solo will blow your mind! Theres loads more aswell but too many to name
!!METAL MATT!!
I can't list just one of my fav guitarist I have to list 2 not sure if any one knows of Rick rozz and James murpy but thy both played for the death metal band DEATH.I dont know of any two men that have done more for death metal then themselvs. Rick Rozz left the band sometime after the release of "Leprosy". Rick was replaced by James Murphy, an accomplished guitarist (who later also worked with Obituary and Testament), who helped in writing the music for Death's LP in 1990 Thanks !!METAL MATT!! Hotrock
Ry Cooder, JJ Cale, Johnny Marr, Dimebag. But my absolute fav is my mate John. PerryL
Gary Moore, Rory Gallagher, Keith Richards. I'm for the Old School Guitarists meself. Granted they aren't as flash as some of the new players but If Satriani and Vai would tone down to just concentrate on song structure and not just showing Their "Talent" they might just make it to the level of say The Stones or mainstream ARTISTS. I agree also that Chet Is ace. You can say what ya like but Chet made Songs NOT Music. Jeff Beck is true artist also but didn't concentrate on song so much as vamping. "Blow By Blow" was the most incredible album I remember ever hearing.

Paulie
Paul Gilbert for me. He has the technique, he has the attitude, he has the raw 80's metal sound with Racer X.
Stalefish
SRV, Jimi Hendrix, Steve Morse.. You know, I just realised that the title was 'Fav Guitarist' not who do you think is the best.. Just an observation.. In light of this, I'll just say that I'm a big fan of all 3 mentioned guitarists.. I think they're cool.. Hah..

kings_x
Ty Tabor. Who? Many of you ask. He is the guitarist for King's X. Who? You might ask again. The best band you have never heard of. But ask most of the guitarists listed here (that are still alive) and they will know who he is. He is an endless supply of guitar riffs and ideas, great song writer and vocalist. Much more well rounded than many of the "shredders". He's heavily influenced by the Beatles, Black Sabath, and Phil Keaggy (to name a few). He's been with King's X and several earlier itterations of the same group since the early 80's and they are still cranking out tunes. He's also done a couple solo albums and several side projects: Platypus (John Myung bass for Dreamtheater, Rod Morganstein - drumer for Dixie Dregs, Derek Sherinian - keyboards, used to be with DT) Jelly Jam (John Myung, Rod Morganstein) Jughead (Matt Bisonnette, Derek Sherinian) I compiled some clips if you want to hear what he sounds like. The clips aren't the greatest since they don't always play the best parts of the songs, at least from a guitarists perspective, but here you go: King's X Gretchen Goes To Nebraska Over My Head Summerland Pleiades The Burning Down Faith Hope Love It's Love We Were Born To Be Loved King's X (self titled) Lost In Germany Black Flag Dogman Dogman Flies and Blue Skies Black the Sky Complain Cigarettes Pillow Ear Candy Life Going By Tapehead Higher Than God Happy Please Come Home...
