Maiden69 Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 I have been watching this site and drooling at the pics of the wood they sell and the most important thing is that you can see the piece you are buying, they post if it has a defect, and I think the prices are good, also they are not in a n auction were somebody can outbid you and get the piece that you want... Gilmer Wood Website Anybody ordered here before? any feedback as if they got what they bought? I will be working on a tight budget and I'll be mad if somebody sends me somenthing that I didn't see on the pics, like what happened with Goreki a while ago with the body he ordered. Quote
Dragyn Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 The flame maple used in my Dragon body guitar is from Gilmer Woods. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=10514 They are very friendly and knowledgable of thier products and the wood sent was the exact wood that was displayed and ordered on the site. Maiden69 Posted August 25, 2004 Author Report Posted August 25, 2004 With a piece of wood like that I can't argue... Thanks for the reply. Quote
tdog Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 I deal with Gilmer all the time.....I've always recieved great material from them.....Talk with Myles or Jim MacDermot. On a sidenote, Gilmer actually supplies material to many smaller dealers....so you may have actually bought wood from them indirectly. Quote

I don't plan on getting one thimg here and another there... I think that $100 ids reasonable. How much did you paid total for the wood on your "V". Quote
westhemann Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 i only pay about $50 usually for enough wood for a guitar BUT pieces like gilmer has are worth what you pay imo... fancy wood costs money Quote

Maiden69 Posted August 25, 2004 Author Report Posted August 25, 2004 Ok, do mahogany looks fuzzy when you get it in bf? In the shop I plan to go they sell wood, don't have alder or swamp ash, but they have 6/4 and 8/4 mahogany, this is really dark and the outside feels ruff like fuzz, is this normal? Then the only thing needed to do is plane it? I think I will give it a try. But they ain't got nothing like flame, or quilt maple, got some maple planks I think they are hard maple, but it's about 6"X1" but didn't checked the price... I'm liking the idea to recap a jackson body that I got with 1/2" maple to carve it, it's the flat top jackson (soloist type) Quote
MzI Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 for my V, black walnut neck thru was free, bolivian rosewood for the fret board was 30 but i have enough for like 10-20 fretboards so lets say $5 for the fret board, mahogany was $15, purple heart was $4 and the maple top was $40 but i have enough for 3-4 more tops so bout $10, so total like $34 MzI Quote
westhemann Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 Ok, do mahogany looks fuzzy when you get it in bf? most rough cut wood looks fuzzy...yes planing and jointing takes care of that Quote
