Rocket Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 Has anyone here performed this modification? I would think it would be quite hairy since you cannot adjust the neck to compensate if you drill the stud holes slightly off. I want to buy an Epiphone and either have a shop do it or what do you guys think? Is it doable by a weekend warrior novice type? Quote
RAI6 Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 What do you mean by "adjusting the neck if the stud holes are slightly off"? If you mean from an intonation stand-point, you have nothing to worry about. There is a reason why the saddles can move....... But all joking aside, putting a Floyd on a guitar is not a "quickie" thing. And even less so when it's on an already finished guitar, as it wasn't "designed" for it. It's "easier" to do when you're building from scratch, but it still requires some skill. If you have never installed a Floyd (or done any MAJOR "damage" ) to any guitar, you may want to consider passing this one on to a Pro. Quote
www Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 Iv'e only seen it with lower end flat top LP's. Floyd Rose has a LP type guitar with a FR tremolo, so I'm sure it can be done. Hope a better answer comes your way. Good luck. Quote
litchfield Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 My Advice: Wait until next year when the flush mount floud comes out. No modifications required. We just had a thread on that very bridge. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=10371 Quote
Maiden69 Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 Either that or you can get the Epiphone Gothis LP thta already comes with the Floyd on it. Or get the LTD KH 603 or 203... I got an EPI and I think they are not as well build! Found out after opening mine. I haven't seen an LTD, but thats my opinion. If not wait for the PRS SE to start selling again if you are looking for a single cut. Quote

I meant that, say one of the studs was too far to the high E side. On a bolt neck guitar you could loosen the neck attachment bolts and sort of OOCH the neck so the high E isn't falling off the fretboard. With a set-neck you are screwed. I did ask a local shop and they advised against. Besides the fact that the cost of installing it by them is more expensive than the Epiphone itself! I went out and played three Epi Les Paul's and was highly disapointed in them. Just not a guitar I would want to own. So now my only options are waiting for the Floyd flat mount; building a Warmoth Les Paul (downer : 25.5" scale); or robbing Neil Schon. Quote
