Southpa Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 OK, time to come clean. I made a small mistake on my SG. Nothing really serious but a mistake none the less. I was looking at the guitar on its stand in the corner and noticed something didn't quite look right. The pickguard curves do not line up with the body curves. I made the pickguard out of 16 ga. stainless steel, cut out w/ a jigsaw and polished down to 1/4 micron METADI diamond compound. Then it came to me (SLAP! to forehead) I made a 24 fret guitar and used a pickguard for a 22 fret guitar! I still have some stainless stock left so I guess I'll make another template from the CAD drawings. I'll just have to "move" the pickup and bridge mount holes. Quote
Dr. Jabsco Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 haha. And once again a violation of the number 1 rule of guitarbuilding. MEASURE TWICE, CUT ONCE. Quote
AlGeeEater Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 For me its measure once, cut twice Quote
bigdguitars Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 my templates like to move on me at times... I have problems with my double stick tape... Quote
PerryL Posted September 7, 2004 Report Posted September 7, 2004 I'm trying to quit using Double stick Tape for templates since they never seem to stay in place when the heat builds up. I have to remember that screws hold better and I have to work out where, Exactly, those screws holes won't be seen when removed. Quote
