IcoHolic
I was looking at swirl remover at the store, wanted swirl remover... for some unknown reason I bought a cutting compound. (Same Looking Bottle) I got home and put a bit on the area I wanted to polish. Turned on the buffer... did the usual 10 seconds... and OH MY GOD. This happened. Picture 1 Of My Brain Fart Picture 2 Of My Brain Fart I know I'm probably stretching, but is there anyway on earth to repair this bit of idiocy? Thanks
erikbojerik
Put a matching one on the other side...? I think it depends on the kind of finish you have; I don't know how well those sparkle colors blend if you try to touch it up. What kind of clear coat did you use, and how many coats? IcoHolic
Well After speaking with Cort... I can get a new body for $125 + S&H... that's probably the most cost effective and simple way to deal with it.
guitar_ed
I used to be a SW engineer, way back in another life. We would call that a feature, not a bug. In other words, like like a big dog and tell people that you did it on purpose. Or tell them that you are relicing the body. asm
i kind of like the look of the sanded thru part. do the rest of the body like that and have a nice metallic transparent blue finish. i bet it would look real nice.
IcoHolic
Well I've ordered a new body from Cort. So I've decided to maybe play with this body and see what I can do with it. Worst case senario... I make a complete mess, and I'll still have a new body. This is probably going to be an excellent way to practice and learn about finishes. I think maybe playing with the compounds and doing some wacky sanding might be fun.
skibum5545
You could do really loopy swirls all over the body with the cutting compound, a la those cool "swirl brushed" stainless steel things you see in large public structures (kinda like this but more random patterns); then scuff up the rest, throw a few coats of clear on it, and you've got yourself a custom finish! Bigtommyb
well since youve got a new body on the way i would do what u did b4 but over the rest of the body cuz i think that looks really kool! if i saw a guitar with the finish on it (where u went wrong!) i would think it was kool and go try it out or tryand turn it into a burst and uve got nothing to lose! mushy the shroom
Burst Burst Burst! I think that would be pretty cool. I used to have a Cort.. my first guitar.. so long ago, well more like 2 years. Anyway, I stole these Hot Water and Gas knobs from my middle school science lab and glued them to my knobs.. random. bigdguitars
should have saved the dough. just disasemble the guitar take it to a parking lot and toss it... bam aged body. I have yet to meet a guitarist who has only one guitar. if you are young and full of pride in the guitar, then sorry bout the mistake. I had a jackson I was soooo pround of and in reality it was not worth what I paid for it.

Devon Headen
ummm....okay i didn't realize a finishing mistake made a guitar into junk around here... just refinish it.... DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!
IcoHolic
Well, when you don't have tools to refinish.. it becomes very expensive to do so. A $200 body is far cheaper than refinishing it myself.
bigdguitars
my point exactly. If you dont have the tools or the practice, what are you going to do.... Keep making mistakes? a 120 bucks for a plywood body from cort? I would do new pickups? or something else for the cash. its just another option, if all else fails. IcoHolic
Cort sends the body finished.
