baze7
How do you rout for binding on a carved top?? Do you do it before you carve the top?
asm
do a search for it. alot of people post this. i think most do it after, and use a dremel tool and the stewmac small router base so the carve doenst affect the cutting depth. Drak
I don't proclaim to be a carved top expert, I've done 2-3, and I found it easier to route the binding ledge first, while my top was still flat. I was very comfortable with that way as opposed to trying to route it afterwards. Worked for me, but you have to calculate everything out properly first, and you have to be careful to protect that ledge while doing your carving. Setch
I route my binding channel before carving. Then I complete 95% of my carve, glue in the binding and finish everything up to the final shape. This allows me to sand away any glue which gets on the top whilst attaching the binding, but reduces the risk of damaging the binding during the carving.
