Neck Finish

I really like the finish on the back of the EBMM John Petrucci. EBMM won't specify exactly what that finish is. What sort of finish would give me that smooth matte feel?

I'm not sure how the Petrucci neck is finished, but a thin polyurethane clear coat (let it dry for 2 weeks) then rub down with 0000 steel wool will give a slightly matte and very smooth feel.
