bigdguitars
Since I have little cash for a HVLP, I have decided to brush on nitro. What a royal pain in the arse. Takes for ever to sand this thing down. 4 coats of nitro and still not level sanding. how long does it take you to wetsand a guitar? been at it for bout 4 hrs now
www
Give it another 10 hrs. Honestly I don't know the answer, but I only know I on my last project I sanded about 16-20 hrs on the finish alone.
CGHbuilder86
What grit of paper are you using? That will make a HUGE difference. You should be able to use something pretty coarse like 400 or 600 all the way up until your last couple of coats, be sure to sand it dead level with these, then apply your last 2-3 coats, and sand with something much finer like 1200-grit, following with 2000 grit, and maybe finer before your buffing. bigdguitars
I started with a sanding sponge. i think its 400 grit. then I moved to 600 grit, the sponge does not work that well. Can I get 320 grit for wetsanding? that might help somewhat. Sore arms.... I can stain a nice top, but doing nitro is another task all by itself
Setch
What kind of surfaces are you sanding? Flat or curved? In either case I'd advise you use something flatter/harder than a sanding sponge to level your finish, or you invite sandthroughs.
